An excellent traditional reliable bench power supply
An excellent bench power supply. This is a traditional Linear regulated power supply complete with big heavy transformer. These linear power supplies are more robust and reliable than the new style of switchmode power supplies that are now flooding the market. Linear supplies are much quieter and will last for decades. Switchmodes are electrically noisey and have a habit of failing very early on in life, some failures are explosive in nature.
This supply is particularly quiet on its output, even under heavy load. It is quick to adjust both voltage and current limiting thanks to the traditional rotary knobs on the front panel. None of this pressing buttons and navigating menus nonsence to adjust things. This is important as sometimes you need to alter the voltage or current quickly. You cant do that with menus or buttons.
The suppliy has voltage and current readout meters, both are accurate and can be trusted.
I would definatley trust this power supply for my developement work and experimentation. The only down side to this supply is the lack of an external heatsink. The supply relies on a small internal heatsink with a permenantly running fan. This is bad for two reasons. First the noise is annoying and second the fan will eventually fail. A heatsink is silent and lasts forever and would have been a better choice.
To sum up, a good reliable power supply, fit for purpose, easy to use and good value for money.
Reccomended.Read full review

Works OK but has noisy fan always running.
Provides required results and is a good price but this is a budget design so I can't really say it's 'good quality'. The only problem in using it so far is that it is very noisy. The description said it had an 'automatic fan' so I assumed tht fan would operate only when needed, i.e. at higher current use, but it is on all the time and is too noisy for a quiet work environment.Read full review

Lavolta BPS305 Variable Linear Adjustable Lab DC Bench Power Supply 0-30V 0-5A
A good little power supply that works quite well.
There are a couple of niggles. Firstly the rubber feet left adhesive on my kitchen worktop which has really annoyed my wife. Secondly the positive (+ve) connection knob was cracked. I have superglued the plastic and it will be fine. The unit is a tad noisy as the cooling fan runs constantly when the unit is switched on.
Otherwise I wish I had the money for two power supplies as it does a good job.Read full review

Very good power supply
Good quality, the power supply can give up to 32V with the fine adjustment potentionmeter. The fan is loud but a linear regulator produce a lot of heat, a pwm controller would be better. I miss a "load switch" from the power supply because if i shut down the power supply it produce a +2v or +3v peak. Lets say the power supply is set to 5V and you shut it down, you get a 7v or 8V peak for around 150-250uS (Measured with Siglent oscilloscope). At the back there is a switch to select the input voltage (110-230V). It was a little bit confusing because above the switch there is a label "110-230V" but if i switch to the right side (where is the "230V" on the label) its the 110V setting.Read full review

Quick Delivery, Accurate Voltage and Current Readings, Perfect for Hobbyist Use
This is the first proper bench power supply I've bought, previously using a DIY one made from a PC PSU and various wall adaptors.
The safety and protection measures this provides make it well worth the money and the values on the LCD displays match up with what my multimeter reads.
Seems pretty well built despite its low price, I'd say it's perfect for getting into electronics safely, should've bought this two years ago! Read full review

Excellent power supply for the price
I've had this for 2 years now and it's been great and very useful. The shirt circuit protection is an excellent feature. The 5A output is also great.

So far so good.
Having used several Isotech PSUs I find this to be just as good for the money. Ok you might not be able to link them in series or parallel (not sure as only skimmed the manual) but with 5A to play with and rarely needing more than 30V then it shouldn't be necessary. Really well built and comes with good UK power cord and a standard banana plug to Croc clip leads.
Manual is the only let down as the English isn't great... but pretty straight forward instruction anyway, oh and fan isn't as quiet as others that I've used but as I tend to accidentally leave them on all the time then maybe that's a good point.Read full review

Multiple use power supply
I was looking for a power supply to cut big polystyrene blocks in smaller pieces. With the right resistance cables I succeeded in doing so. Varying the Voltage or the current the polystyrene melts away.
It was very succesfull and the Lavolta BPS305 is a great asset.Read full review

Good Performance
The BPS 305 Power supply is a solid, well made piece of service equipment which should give years of service. The footprint of the power supply is reasonable and it does not take up lots of the bench. It is easy to use and runs cool. The only point that does not seem necessary, is that the cooling fan runs all the time when the unit is switched on, even when not actually in use. Read full review

Budget linear power supply
A good starter linear power supply. The cooling fan runs constantly and it required slight adjustment to calibrate output volts & current displays correctly. However it would have cost me more money and time to build myself.Read full review

Great, but noisy
This is a high quality power supply, with very accurate voltage and current setting. But it has two relatively minor problems. The first is the lack of a switched output - the only way to turn it on and off is with the mains switch. The second is the fan, which is noisy and permanently on. This could be thermally controlled imply and cheaply.Read full review
