LG UP970 Still Reason to own 'last year's model'
If like me, you spend most of your online video streaming time between 2 sites- YouTube and Netflix, then the UP970 is a great choice for you. With a simple to use remote, onscreen control display, easy wifi or wired internet setup, DVD and BluRay upscaling, 4K streaming, UHD 4K Blu Ray disc playback AND dolby vision and HDR this model delivers. UPDATE: 18 Months Later.
Certain discs do exhibit rattling, even with the newest firmware. This seems to be with very specific discs, e.g. Dunkirk from the Nolan box set rattles excessively while Interstellar and Inception do not.
The firmware to add Dolby Vision is finally here, after a few months of being pulled. I can't comment on the it as by the time it was finally re-implemented, I had already bought the titles I was interested in seeing Dolby Vision in on streaming platforms.
There are better players out now with the same features but better build quality and the same price, and if you want rock bottom players, there are cheaper options out there (including some made by LG themselves).
This player has zero reason to exist now.Read full review

Great picture quality! ...horrendous build
My LG UP970 plays my UHD blu ray movies with amazing picture quality, thanks mostly to it supporting Dolby Vision. And improves the look of regular Blu ray and DVDs. Easy to setup and use with simple interface. Only and biggest downside is cheap housing. The build is mainly plastic and can't handle the high disc speeds needed to read UHDs. This causes horrendous shaking and noise. Forcing me to put the player in a drawer to suppress the sound. Read full review

Awesome image quality, Buzzing noise while playing 4K discs
The unite is excellent in terms of Image quality, HDR is beautiful, loved that you can plug USB with movie file and plays them with an excellent Upscale.
Unfortunately the unit makes a Buzzing noise when playing 4K discs, only on 4K, does not make any noise for Blu-Ray or DVD discs. The noise can be distracting when you are watching the movie with low volume. Read on the web and apparently the issue is with the unit design.

Matched the LG UP970 with a LG 34UMB61-P with excellent results, outstanding clarity with HD resolution. Scales very well with lower resolution with excellent video image and color depth. This 3D Blu ray player lives up to its excellent reviews. It has played everything I have thrown at it, including 3D Blu ray and 3D DVDs +/-. Its list of codecs is the most up to date I have seen, including HEVC. Best bang for your buck
I recently just bought a 4K TV without much research because it was a good deal and happy with the TV. I decided to get a 4K player to watch 4K blu dvds and see what this tv can really do. I did a thorough research and learned a lot about HDR and dolby vision. This was the only player that was affordable and supported 4K HDR, dolby Vision, and 3D.
