If you’re thinking this fix can’t be this easy and inexpensive well your wrong! I was skeptical but figured worst case scenario I wasted $60 in an attempt to save over $200. Follow the instructions and it works perfectly!! Took me about an hour from start to finish. Bolt type gear puller is essential for flywheel removal. Kohler flywheel ring gear
This Kohler flywheel ring gear is very well made. It's also extremely easy to install. The hardest part is getting the flywheel off the engine after that it's a piece of cake. I have installed many ring gears on small engines but this one was by far the easiest. The fit and finish is phenomenal! Consider me a very happy customer.Read full review

Great value!
Not only does this item save money, it's easy to install. If you have a freezer, an oven and a mallet you can do it. I chilled the flywheel for a few hours then heated the ring in a small oven for a few minutes. Placed the flywheel on my bench and removed the ring with an oven mitt and placed on the flywheel. I than easily tapped the ring in place with a rubber mallet. If you can get the flywheel off your mower you'll have no trouble installing this ring.Read full review

Perfect Replacement
This ring gear was a perfect replacement for my Kohler courage 25 hp Cub Cadet engine. Installation was easy, I put the flywheel in the freezer and the ring gear in the oven at 300 degrees for fifteen minutes. Then took both parts and slipped the ring on the fly wheel and let them sit to come to room temperature. they mated together perfectly and then reassembled the engine. The engine started without issue.

Must know how to install
Gear works fine, but if this is a DIY some mechanical knowledge is required as this requires taking a bit of engine apart and installing a heat/friction fit gear. I used an old method of putting flywheel assembly in freezer (to shrink) and ring gear in a 450 deg. oven. Using gloves I placed heated gear on cold assembly and put on with a rubber hammer. It went right on and after cooling, assembled engine. All works just fine.
Also, care has to be used when re-setting magneto pick up's to original position.Read full review

Just what I needed
The ring gear on my Kohler courage 23 flywheel broke. I was going to just replace the whole flywheel, but it cost more than I was expecting. While searching for a new flywheel I came across this ring gear for the flywheel. the price of the ring gear was less than a third of the price of the complete flywheel. The broken ring came right off and I heated the new ring gear up with a torch and it dropped right on the flywheel and after cooling off it fits tight and does not spin on the flywheel. Kohler does not offer just the ring for replacement you have to buy the whole flywheel. Replacing the ring was a lot more economical.Read full review
