Bought a Vintage KitchenAid K5ss stand mixer. Best price I could find anywhere. Just regreased the gearbox, adjusted the head angle, cleaned it up, and adjusted the speed control to be able to get the 'Off' position and '#10' speed.
This now functions like a brand new mixer, only better, because its an old K5. It is very powerful. Separately I bought a whisk and dough hook. With some minor tinkering it now makes bread dough with ease, as well as accomplishing all other mixing tasks.

After reading less-than raving reviews about new KitchenAid mixers, I decided to go old school and buy this classic for my daughter's Christmas present. We then had the opportunity to use it for Christmas dinner and whipped up some awesome mashed potatoes. It is very powerful, and did the job in minutes. My daughter is thrilled. It works, but you can hear the brushes or the motor is wearing out. Will use it as long as I can for I had one just like it so I have extra bowls, etc. I use my mixers at least 3 times a week.
