Fine - works well

Never can be sure with second hand products, especially it it's electronic and has lived in garage. But at about half the cost of new this is as good as new. Works well

Noisey controller.

DO NOT BUY.
This thing makes an awful buzzing sound when you turn it on. It also makes your trains buzz.
It runs the trains well but the noise is not worth it. I have confirmed with other owners that this is not a fault, it's part of the design.

Get a Gaugemaster controller instead. Smooth running with no noise.Read full review

Getting the best from my set

The press terminals on this controller make it easier to get power to multiple zones and two isolated sources allow for some complex cross-overs. The size of the controller and power lead mean it probably has to sit on the outside of the track, unless you are lucky enough to sit in the middle. You can route all your cable under thack, but unlike my previous controllers, I can detache, and reattach this quickly. You don't have to keep it screwed to your board.

I am only too happy to buy second-hand kit, but the variations in the power to the engines was getting frustrating. The performance is as solid as the build and I am far more likely to be able to get it repaired than the cheaper plastic models. I am beginning to appreciate how the versatility and potential of this controller might mean I won.'t need as many as I thought. Being recently returned to the hobby there can be a steep learning curve. Our set's theme limits our rolling stock, space is limited and digital doesn't appeal. I think this will keep us going for some time to come. I really wish I had bought this first. The others were a false economy. It's not a cheap pastime, so it makes no sense to skimp on the heart of your set. This makes the magic happen.Read full review

Used product -Didn't work properly. L/H speed control on full only as per the uncontrolled ports and buzzing noise when powered.

These are generally not bad new but this is the second used one I've bought off ebay that either didn't work properly or at all.

Buying second hand, just check

Product exactly as described, no output right hand side, so repair required. These units are very neat and well put together, they are described as good and usually reliable but if you look on ebay there are a few with exactly the same fault as the one I purchased. It is not insurmountable but time consuming. If you purchase the later model with no side connections for extension controllers it has been updated from this model and the manufacturer still support it.Read full review

Does what it is designed to do

Purchased this controller to replace an old H&M unit that was giving me some issues. Trains seem to run more smoothly than before. One design issue I think is detrimental compared to the old unit is having to use a switch to reverse trains but once you get used to the need it is OK but not great.Read full review
