Excellent RPN calculator and an excellent value...

I have an old HP48SX that I use at home; I've had it for 25 years and it still works fine. I bought this 48G to use at work so I don't have to carry the old one back and forth.
For 99.8% of any engineer's or scientist's needs, this is the only calculator to consider. It might seem outdated, but the positive feedback on the button presses make this far better than the newer HP49G and HP50G calculators IMO, and it is plenty fast enough and capable enough for everything I've needed as a working electrical engineer.
32KB of memory may seem like a joke in today's terms, but really... who's going to write more than a simple program on their calculator anyway - they are going to use Python or Matlab or some other PC-based tool for any real programming. This suites the needs of a real RPN calculator with rugged durability, reliability, positive feedback on key presses, and is plenty fast.

Replaced a unit I had for 25 years

I've had one of these for over 25 years, It finally died, and they no longer make this model, so I was happy to find it. I was so used to the other one that I didn't want a newer model.
My old one always had a flaw, and it was this. When you first turned it on and put in your first key stroke it wouldn't record it on the screen so you had to do it a second time.
This replacement does not have the problem. Very satisfied with it.

Great example of a classic calculator.

The HP48 is my personal calculator of choice. The RPN takes a bit to get used to, but it grows on you, and lets the calculator handle calculations of any length. The RPL lets you write your own code to automate repeated tasks, and writing a program is often as easy as typing in the commands you would otherwise have run manually. I will concede that while the screen is a higher resolution than a Ti84, and is capable of drawing 3D plots, the interface to the graphing functions isn't as user friendly as the one on its Ti relatives, and even at the higher resolution, making out details for the 3d plots isn't very easy on a black and white screen, so if you are going to be using it more for graphing than calculating, then perhaps a 83 or 84 from Ti might be a better choice. As a calculator though, I would highly recommend.Read full review

HP 48G - "Best Calculator Ever Made"

This is the best calculator money can buy? If you don't already use a calculator with Reverse Polish Notation, it will take some getting used to, but once you do, you will never want to touch a calculator that doesn't have RPN. This calculator is a must have for those in the engineering field. I don't know why they don't make this calculator any more. I got my first one in 1993 and have been using them ever since.

"It is the best calculator on earth" I have seen them used all over the world, and those that use them all say the same. Buy one you will see

Great calculator at a good value.

These are the best calculator you can buy for the money. They are RPN which I like and have all of the advanced functions needed in a scientific calculator. They are also very sturdy, durable and have great feeling keys. I would recommend these to anyone.Read full review

Like coming home again

I've used two newer versions of this calculator but always continued to miss the one I used back when I was toiling away pursuing my degree. The 48G is a solid build with the feel of the button presses the best I've ever experienced. It does what I need in a no nonsense straight to the point fashion. The only reason I ever left it behind was because of an accidental drop into water that it sadly didn't recover from. The one I recently received was in mint condition all around, even the case, so we are once again reunited and I couldn't be happier. Who needs a pet when you've got a 48G to keep you company? Highly recommended!Read full review

HP 48G Graphing Calculator

I am an electrical engineer and have been using this model since 1994. It has served me very well for over two decades, I seldom leave to behind while traveling to job sites. Even though it is now only a backup for my laptop, I feel ill equipped without it.Read full review

Great example of old school HP quality

New calculators are cheaply made. If you value quality durability, the HP48G is difficult to beat. I bought one as an undergrad and recently have purchased used versions to keep at work and as a backup. My original HP48 is almost 25 years old, still works like new. Great devices.Read full review
