Poor quality and badly made.
This is a clever design that has been around for a long time. However, this particular item is poor quality and badly made. So that the gate would close securely I had to make a new 'striker plate' from thicker metal. The latch is quite tricky to fit and has to be positioned very accurately. No instructions are provided so I found this out by trial and error. Not providing any fixing screws is a bit cheapskate It's ok and can be made to work but there must be better quality examples about.Read full review

Works well once spaced away from mounting.
It seems to be well made, with good fixings, but spoilt by the mechanism fouling on the gatepost. As the mechanism pivots to close, it fouls the gatepost to which it is fitted, often sticking half-way. The frame needs to be slightly longer to move the mechanism away from the post. I have spaced this with a washer behind each fixing hole, and it is now working perfectly. The washers will embed themselves into the wooden post, so it will need a plate instead, to spread the load. A little work in the garage, but many customers will not have the ability or facilities to do this.Read full review

Poor quality lets down ingenious design
This is my second purchase because my gate and frame are configured to receive the catch
In principle it's a good idea but the quality is very poor, my first lasted just 12 months, thin metal with insufficient corrosion protection is the main weakness
I would rather pay more for a robust product, get it made in the UK!
Attach picture showing newly purchased replacement fixed to gate frame with old latch sitting on top in poor state, broken pins etc.Read full review

Good solid product
I bought the same one but at half the price 2 years ago
Pity it’s gone up so much but it’s solidly built with metal and not rubber rollers

A poor quality copy!
I have an original 'Kenham' gate catch. The 'Gatemate' is inferior quality in comparison - weak spring, clearance between strike plate and wheel when closed and thinner gauge metal.

Weak
It's not great - it doesn't work that well and it was difficoult to position , spmething that should be mentioned with a picture ir similar At times spring doesn't work and needs to be put in place manually. Decent value for moneyRead full review

£1 shop quality
Very flimsy bracket. Badly distorted. had to straighten it up with pliers before use. Plating seems very thin, but await time to see how it stands up to british weather. But it works after a fashion.

Easy to fit.
I’d recommend this product. Not only is it easy to fit. It works great, no more flapping gates.
So even the neighbours are happy.
I’ve just ordered more for my other gates.
