Garmin Etrex H GPS receiver

I bought this to replace the same model I lost. It functions well under trees, unlike its predecessor. As I only want "position", "go to" and "distance" functions, it is ideal and relatively uncomplicated to use. The only downside is the backlight is not very bright.Read full review

Still functional even it was an old model.

Still functional even though it is an old model. The only problem with this models are the dates have either return from 20 years ago or went to the future 20 years from now. It is called the satellite week roll-over which all older version of garmin like etrex H and vista got these date roll over problems. It is fixable but needs to buy a £30 cable to update the software of your garmin. But if you're not fuzzy about dates it is not really important as the time/hours are updated once you got a fix. And the gps navigator is usable.Read full review

A great buy at second-hand prices.

Sturdy build, intuitive operation, sensible batteries plus good sensitivity make this terrific value when you can buy one for twenty quid or so.
Only down side is lack of USB connector limiting you to serial interface only. There is no need to buy an expensive connector though as a data cable is easily made for virtually nothing. Just Google "Home-made Garmin eTrex data cable."Read full review

AS REQUIRED & GRATEFULLY RECEIVED

Bought as a present for my son in Panama & he was truly delighted. His previous one had finaly packed up with the humidity in the dry season but had lasted for aprox. 4 years.

A Geo-caching device

This little device does not have any maps. If you want those, spend more money.
Its strength is the sensitivity of its GPS which works well under trees in wooded areas.
It has bags of memory to remember locations and when the batteries need replacing after about seventeen hours of use, you don't loose any of them. For the limited purpose of geo-caching, it's the bees-knees but if you need it with maps, it's not for you.Read full review
