Gunk Ultra engine degreaser

I have bought Gunk products in the past and found them to be excellent. however this version of gunk's engine degreaser did not live up to its past reputation, it did not dissolve the grease and oil around the engine bay with ease, and took repeated applications to finally achieve a satisfactory result, this meant I had to use much more of the product, it seems to lack solvent properties to loosen caked on deposits and appears to work in much the same way as a washing up liquid, I would suggest it is excellent if used to wash the bodywork of a car, but to use it as an "ultra" engine degreaser is stretching its capabilities, I applied it neat with a stiff brush, then left it for 40 mins then used a pressure washer, it took 3 applications to finally get it fairly clean, sorry Gunk, but I had to use almost both 5ltr packs to get one engine degreased. Not up to the job!!

I purchased this because i had a particularly heavy job to do (gearbox from t2 vw) I have used it and am very unhappy with it, I actually scraped most of the build up from the job and then applied the so called "degreaser", leaving it for the specified time, It is very poor at removing the grease, there is very little "movement " when brushing it in, and when you try to clear the area, the grease is still very noticeable! Even with a second application there was only a small sign of actual removal of grease. I have had FAR better results from white spirit, and NO I would not recommend this product!, As far as I am concerned, It is a waste of money AND effort !!! Read full review...

Gunk - not like the old days

Gunk used to be good so I was looking forwards to testing this product. I had some hyper clean to compare it with. The Gunk looks good but when I brushed it onto the oil the product just did not seem to combine with the oil and remove it it was almost like water. The hyper clean worked well.

Maybe its the new health and safety but this product is not great in my opinion.Read full review...

We have given the item only 3 stars because as a water soluble degreaser it would not tackle the "caked on" grease on one of the engines we neede to clean. We found it necessary to use a spray on brake & clutch cleaning fluid first so that the bulk of the greasy dirt was removed before using the Gunk degreaser as a second stage. The Gunk degreaser is probably capable of degreasing an engine as long as the engine is not too dirty.

SMELLS BETTER THAN IT WORKS

The only good thing about this product is that it smells better that the original type, but does not have the same results, it struggles to remove heavy oil stains, probably not a lot better than using a white spirit based product.Read full review...

Does not appear to be as strong at the orange gunk tin, disappointed with this product

I have used Gunk out of an orange tin before, as we all know its not cheap, so see this and thought 5 Ltrs at a great price and its Gunk.

Well i am convinced this is a watered down version of the orange tin version.

I used it to degrease an engine and its did not even with using small wire brushes shift the dirt / grease / dried oil

So for me i felt its watered down version, to point i wondered if was even a fake product.

Not quite what it used to be

I can remember buying the original stuff and did it smell, this stuff has no smell but definitely not has good has what it used to be.
If you don't expect miracles it's alright for the price. Would I buy again 🤔 I'll have to use the complete container before I decide if I would.
One tip I have found is use a old spray bottle, spray it on and use a stiff brush to remove what you are trying to clean for best results.
Then hose with water👍
