If like me you were hesitant, I can confirm the discs work fine. There are still some very new estates not on the maps, even though it is listed as 2018, however I think this is probably normal.
r>A few days after inserting the new disc my car displayed "no sat nav DVD present" or words to that affect. This message had also shown up about two weeks before with my original disc, so this is probably unrelated. Update maps

Good maps that updated my nav to current roads. Lots of roads that weren't on previous (2014) maps are now there. DVD works better than last one as well - a touch quieter (I think) and definitely more reliable than my last one that used to give up in the cold.Read full review

BMW brought up to date

Disk was recognized immediately by the BMW 1 series SatNav in the console under the CD player. It asked to be turned off for five minutes then worked fine ever since.
