GPS Logger for your Cat
As some others have said in reviews the G-Paws website appears to be dead, but that does not stop this data logger from being useful.
The logging is entirely within the device - it records the GPS location at intervals to a GPX file which you can download onto your computer via USB. There are lots of websites that allow uploading of GPX files to see the paths on a map (I found Google Earth to be pretty cool for seeing where my cat has been)
The instructions are pretty limited but it's really easy to use.
As far as I can tell when it's plugged in a red light means charging, a green light means charged. And in use a blue light means it has a GPS fix.
There are some good instructions for use in the review by Quel Geek on Amazon (look for g-paws-00100-G-Paws-Data-Recorder B009VU82R8)
When you plug it into your PC there is a config.txt file on the device which on mine just had the timezone GMT+0 listed. From experience with other devices there may well be other things that can be configured through this file if we had a reference. I'd like to be able to change the logging interval to get a more accurate track. Shame there is no reference for how this file can be used.Read full review

Lightweight, practicle, if only it was usable.
Bought this product with great expectations, only to find out that the user web site no longer functions making the device unusable. With other disappointed purchasers, trying to find another method of uploading the stored info!Read full review

Cheap but surprisingly cheerful
So. I spent £5 on a GPS tracker in an attempt to find out why my cat 'smells of other people' and comes back in and is sick leaving someone else's food on the floor. I thought for this money it would be utter rubbish. I was pleasantly surprised.
When it turned up there wasn't much to it just a printed label with info on, a very short usb lead, a rubber case for it and a few bits to fasten the case to the pets collar. It states that it is waterproof but tbh I very much doubt it as the u it itself is not, so they must be relying on the rubber case to make a seal. You have to turn on the tracker then crowbar it somehow into the rubber case, then fit it on the cat.
So I charged it, turned it on, crowbarred it into the holder and had an evil laugh as I watched the cat wonder outside trying to work out what the hell I had done to him. I forgot all about it until he came back in a few hours later. I decided for the 1st time this was enough. I took it off and downloaded the file to my laptop, tried to use the website to load the file bit I just got errors, I then googled it and found another site and uploaded my file and boom, omg in the 1st 2 hours he had been everywhere with 3 trips to the same house. And then hovering around there, just looking at where he had been was so interesting, until this point I wasn't expecting it to have recorded anything, I was suddenly very impressed.
The more I put it on my cat the more interested I become, so much so I bought a cat camera and recorded what he saw as well !!!
All in for £5 I'm very impressed, i don't think mine was an original but not bothered. It looked cheap and cheerful but it worked and worked well. Hey and for this money if the cat looses it who cares. I had my fun out of it on the 1st trip.
I would definitely recommend getting one ;)Read full review

Works well - Great value
I have 3 cats and have been using G-Paws 1 and 2 for the last 5 years intermittently. This latest version 3 is an improvement in some areas its better made with meaningful led indicators, good instructions and the web site recommended is far better than the old original one which has been taken down. There is also a good Apple gpx viewer app available.
This gpaws 3 has given me some excellect tracks of my cats and for an exceptionally low amazing price so I would certainly recommend. On the down side this version does not make seperate files for each period of the animals activity like the original ones, it updates at midnight but you can delete each file once you have viewed them. The rubber holder is really unsuitable for an item that has to be removed every time and I disposed of it and used velcro and a band. I did the original gpaws tracks video on YouTube in 2013 and its still available under my user name CAPELOWL.Read full review

Cheap but Great pet GPS unit
This has to be the bargain of the year. £3.95 for a GPS you can attach to your pet and then track their movements on Google Earth. Works a treat and very easy to use. Fix unit to pets collar, let them go rambling around. Remove unit from pet collar & plug into PC via USB. Point Google earth at recorded gpx file & heigh presto you can see where your pet has been. Inbuilt rechargeable battery lasts around 8 hours. Get one while you can.Read full review

Use for tracking your camera
I attach this to my camera strap. The resulting .gpx file can be loaded into Lightroom. Then you can see what photographs were taken in which locations. The time in the camera must be set accurately of course. It works perfectly. Better than a phone app.
The rubber case does not have openings for the USB plug and on/off switch. It is tricky to remove from the case so it is necessary to cut holes to suit. Considering the price this is not too much of a downside.Read full review

Website no longer works
The website this links to no longer works. Gpaws facebook page is full of people commenting about it and has been since June (unfortunately I only found this out when trying to work out why I couldn't log on) . Tracker itself works fine but pretty useless without the website!Read full review

Doesn’t work
I bought this product thinking it will track down my pet when it is out, however due to the app being shut down all you can do with it is see where your pet has been that day when it returns home which in no good for me as I bought it to track down my pet, when it gets out.Read full review

A very good tracker for the price
Very cheap and reasonably accurate. Battery life is probably up to 5 hours continuous use so not good for a full day's recording without recharging.
The instructions suggest you can adjust the time zone by editing a line in the CONFIG.TEXT file. This is true to the extent that the date & time recorded is changed, but it is still recorded as if it were GMT/UTC (Zulu) time. (The gpx standard specifies that date & time are GMT/UTC, but no specific UTC offset field is provided - a non-standardised comment field is the only way of recording this.) So beware that using the time offset facility will cause gpx readers to assume the wrong time.Read full review

Good tracker
For the price you can't complain about this device. Those stating that the tracker doesn't work haven't taken the time to understand how a GPS device actually works and used Google to fill in their knowledge. OK, the fancy gpaws website no longer exists, but with a little knowhow you can still extract the raw gpx files and upload them to plenty of other platforms to see where your pet has roamed. The timings may not be wholly accurate, but for the price this device is excellentRead full review
