Good kit, quite easy to make, functions as expected.
Delivered in a neat kit inside the box which eventually houses the finished unit. Made of stiff card but it is functional. The instructions are pretty comprehensive and with fair soldering skills I found it easy to make up the unit, in under an hour. The only defect is that there is no specific place for the PP3 battery which knocks around inside if unsecured - I glued it down but that's not a terribly good long-term solution as will have to tear it apart from the box when the battery runs down. It seems to work well - we have at least one bat circling our garden most nights and it could be detected before it came into view. Whether it will be easy to distinguish one species from another remains to be seen.Read full review

worked OK, but too bulky
The size of the box, and the cardboard it is made of put it in a lower rank than its competitors. I made a wooden box for the components that is less than half the volume of the box supplied. For a portable instrument this makes a big difference.Read full review

Does what it states on the box.
Great device if youre handy with a soldering iron. Good value for money considering the price of Bat detectors normally. Was surprised at how effective it was - it felt like the bats were attracted by the device! - clearly we hadn't realised what bats were in our area before now.
There are a few improvements that could be made - the battery has nothing to hold it in place so we did modify ours to stop the battery roaming inside the box. The device is contained in the box the kit comes in, which is cardboard, so how long it can hold up, only time will tell with use.Read full review

Bat Detector Kit
This is a simple but well thought out kit. It can be easily constructed in a couple of hours by anyone capable of using a soldering iron. The instructions are clear and assembly relatively easy if you take time and follow the sequence of construction exactly.
My assembled kit worked straight away in test mode. Weather conditions delayed a field trail but on May 9th, the evening was perfect and the detector worked very well.
A super kit that gives a sense of achievement to the builder and works well. Great fun and value for money.Read full review

great bit of kit needs careful assembly
great value, works really well. Soldering is very small and needs high skill; a way to stop the battery sliding around would be good. I used a bit of self adhesive Velcro

bat detector
experience with soldering is helpful, but if you follow the instructions, not essential.
once all the bits and pieces are in place the battery connected and detector turned on, observing bats becomes a different experience . i didn't realise i had two different species until i heard the different sounds . fascinating!.Read full review

cheap bat detector that works fine
very good value kit, easy to follow instructions but involves some soldering.
Contains all of the components to make a working bat detector, can also also be used to pick up other ultrasonic sounds as well as a bonus.
My soldering skills are not great but I got it working first time.
It can be a bit fiddly but I started, took a break and then came back to it again.
Only item not supplied is a 9 volt battery but at this price you cannot expect that!
Recommended and compares well to my other official bat detector that cost 4 times more.Read full review

EASY BUILD
works first time, I do have experience of soldering so assembly was easy. A bit surprised that the case is cardboard but overall I am very satisfied with the results.
A modification I did make was to twist the two piezo wires together to reduce noise pick up.Read full review

Great parent and children project
I can confirm what other reviews have said regarding the lack of battery holder.
But you could tape it in !
My kit instructions also show the microphone in the lid whereas the mounting holes are in the base!
However a great project, easy assembley and surprisingly great results.
That's why I'm giving it 5 stars and buying another one as a present for a friend who has bats visiting every night.Read full review

Its easy
This simple bat detector was very easy to build. Used a 1mm iron bit for the soldering and the device worked first time. The instructions were just right.
First time we used it at the medium setting we heard our first bat. Adjusting the sensitivity has helped to get better reception. Its a lot of fun for the money.
Used velcro for the battery support, otherwise I might find a better case over time, but the cardboard case is ok for the moment.Read full review
