Best beginner backpacking tent

This is a great little inexpensive and lightweight option for a backpacking shelter. I am 6’1” and have been comfortable sleeping in this tent on a pad with a sleeping bag. Back sleepers can enjoy really breezy star-gazing evenings with the rain fly rolled back. Cons are lack of pack storage for a tall person and an uncomfortable tent entry/exit directly into weather. This holds up well to rain and wind when tied down properly. It takes 9 tent stakes to properly stake this out, which takes a few minutes. The stakes provided are very heavy, so for a few extra dollars this tent can be made much lighter. Overall, I really love this shelter. Read full review

1st time overnight hike.

This tent is perfect for backpacking. Small and lightweight. The tent is easy to set up and has sufficient room. It did rain the first day of the hike and did stay dry on the inside. But on the second day in the heat of the day (only about 80deg.) The tent poles seemed to bend at the metal couplings and broke in two places. The mat'l that the poles are made of does not seem to do well in the heat. If this tent came with better poles it would be a great small tent. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this tent.

Great Tent!

This model has served me very well in several environments: wet-windy Adak, Alaska; -5° in the Cascades; and all the pleasant weather too. Other bivy tents don't breathe as well as this model. Stake it tightly and the screen top (under rain fly) keeps enough air exchanging to reduce condensation. Careful with the poles though...just had one break in cold weather: Johnson Outdoors sells replacement for $17 each, but that doesn't help until the NEXT trip. New model has aluminum instead of fiberglass poles.

I recommend this tent, just be gentle when bending the poles, especially near 0° F; I'm gonna warm mine with bodyheat next time before bending...just to be safe.

Great lightweight tent Great lightweight tent

I love the fact that is lightweight just wish the polls were a little shorter cut to fit inside my day bag other than that no complaints it's going to make a great weekend hunt for my kayak Adventures where or the amount of weight matters a lot when you're carrying it aroundRead full review

Poor Quality, Complicated Setup

On my first day usage, both tent poles broken apart by them self after the tent was setup. While I try to make the poles in place, both broken poles punctuated thru the tent fabric. I have to sleep inside the tent while the tent falling on me like a big sleeping bag.

I am very dissatisfied with this tent. The setup is very complicated, not easy to get in&out from the side and the quality is poor.

Not light as described but very cmfortable

The tent weights more close to 3.2 pound than 2.6 as described in the internet. However, it is very easy to set up and comfortable. Materials are of high standarts.

Best one person tent for the money

Truly compact and easy to erect. Slept fine in high wind and heavy rain.
Would purchase again, well worth the money.
