Duracell Premium Charger is faster BUT will not charge some older NiMh Batteries

The Duracell 1-2.5 HOUR "Premium Charger" is faster BUT it will not charge several of my older Duracell, Tenergy and Sanyo Eneloop NiMh batteries. (Flashing red light, error and not charging) Same batteries in the Duracell 4-8 HOUR "Value Charger" took much longer but it did charge the batteries.
(My old Tenergy TN156 charger also works on all my batteries and I can charge one at a time and not need to charge in pairs plus it has a display to monitor progress.)
Note: Both Duracell chargers only charge batteries in pairs and they only "Fast Charge" when just two batteries are charged at a time. When 4 batteries are charged the mA power is cut in half and the time to charge is doubled.
Just my guess but like with all chargers, the faster the charge the shorter the battery life.
I only use the Premium charger when I need a battery charged quickly. All other times, I use the
Value Charger (or Tenergy) and fully load 4 batteries in charger. It is slower but the batteries should last longer.

Saves money vs buying AA batteries

This Duracell ION AA batteries and charger combo kit was purchased to save money vs buying batteries. In this household, we're always needing AA batteries for toys, controllers, etc. and running out of fresh ones and having to go to the store is a pain. With these I can charge 4 at a time and keep the fresh ones in the drawer ready for use! Something that saves me time and money? Now that's something I can get behind.
