Dillon Precision RL550-C Reloading Machine without Caliber Conversion Kit

New to reloading

I purchased this press on the recommendation of my friend who has been reloading for over 40 years and has used a variety of presses. He suggested I just bite the bullet and get the equipment I'll eventually decide I need to begin with rather than work my way up to the good stuff. The press is easy to set up, reliable, and has the benefit of access to very knowledgeable phone support at Dillon. I used it to reload the 308 Win cases I had available with no problems. When I switch to 338 Lapua the change-over was easy and everything was going great until I got a case stuck in the die. Not a problem with the press, just a problem with the operator. Even with the large magnum rounds the mechanical advantage provided by the design of the press makes for easy work until you get a case stuck. Dillon RL 550B

I have used the Dillon 550B for well over twenty years. I just purchased a new one for my son, which he helped pay for. He was real excited to be able to start reloading high quality 10 mm auto right away.

I've noticed that Dillon continually makes improvements and adds accessories to it's products. I bought the "strong mount" and bullet/case holding bins for my old machine as well.

Best progressive press there is

If you are going to shoot a lot this is the best way to go. I just got back into shooting and I bought this press again. I've used a Dillon 550B for over 10 years now and have loaded over 20,000 rounds and it works great. Once you get it set up it's free sailing. I can reload 100 rounds in about 7 minutes for half the cost of buying ammo in the stores. Plus you have a greater selection of rounds to make not just what the store has. I'm reloading 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 acp and have 3 separate tool heads so changing calibers is very easy.Read full review

Great reloading machine

I bought this machine as an up grade to a Lee turret press that I learned how to reload on a couple years ago. It is very smooth and once set up and tuned works perfectly. Once you get your rhythm down you can reload a lot of ammunition and each pull of the handle produces a finished round. I would get the strong mount for this press as it really makes a solid platform. I would forget the roller handle at this point since you are taking your hand off to grab an empty case any way I just don't see an advantage. If you have a case feeder then that is a different story.

I am using Lee dies and they work on this press. Some will say that they don't work but I find that I am able to still use my original dies. Granted there is not many threads left over but everything locks up tight to the tool head with my Hornady lock-rings, another great product.

Looking back I wished I had just bought this machine first, buy once cry once I guess. I had originally intended on keeping my Lee Classic Turret but because of how everything works I don't see the need to have both presses.Read full review

Fairly new to reloading

I upgraded from a single stage RCBS press to the Dillon 550C. I watched a YouTube video to complete the assembly. It will take me a little time to feel comfortable with the Dillon system. I felt confident that I could monitor one step at a time. There is so much going on with each pull on the Dillon press that it will take some time to build confidence. The best progressive loader on he market !

I have owned 2 of these same loaders prior to this purchase. These are user friendly and the final component is 100% accurately made. Powder charge is always accurate, ease of caliber change is second to none and the quality is top notch.

Best deal on a great loader

I’ve gone through probably 4 different presses over the years and this is by far the best. The rest had various shortfalls. I finally spent the extra money for a Dillon and worth every penny. Everything is quality metal (no static electricity) and fit and function is real professional quality. I bought extra tool heads so I could set up the dies one time and check out the funnel-shellplate-pins table and save some money by seeing which parts cross over to multiple caliber uses. Dillon RL550

This is the best built press out there, my brother has had his for 20 years and as a serious reloading guy he will not use anything else, my wife surprised me with this for my birthday and even though you might wanna go cheaper I would urge you to save the extra money for a Dillon, the lifetime. "No BS" warranty is exactly that, if something breaks or if you just wear it out, Dillon will fix it like new or replace it. I highly recommend this and my brother as a retired Airborne Ranger with 26 years in the Army also Recommended this. There just is no comparison to the others.Read full review
