Sweet phaser!
Old Trekkie here, this is the type of toy I wish I'd had in the mid 70's (the ones back then were either too small, or looked far different from the actual props). It looks every bit like the real TV show prop complete with sound (I wish it was louder, but that's ok). The knobs and trigger function and the "Type 1" mini phaser separates from the "Type 2" main phaser, as seen on some episodes. The locking stud for this feature is rather small and the way the release button sticks out I worry about the small phaser falling off as I carry it around. I plan to use a piece of two-sided tape between the two pieces to eliminate the chance. The business end even lights up in a red pulse. You may not get an actual stun beam but certainly everything else including fun. I'm not keeping this in the package and hoarding it, I'm going to get full use out of it this Halloween as the wife and I dress as our favorite characters from the original series.Read full review

Looks the part, so-so quality, high price
If you want something that looks very much like the ST:TOS phasers, this seems to be the most economical choice on the market today. It does look pretty authentic, and it has a lot of great sounds, which you can select between with the adjustment dial. It even has the "phaser on overload" setting. The main problem with this item is the quality; it's just not very good. On mine, the Type I phaser wouldn't stay locked to the Type II handle, and setting the power to overload actually pushed it out! I managed to use an Xacto blade to carve a little plastic out of the detent on the Type I phaser so it'd stay locked in. I'm also not impressed with the dial that raises the "aiming screen" (which barely does anything really). The other bad part is the light on the front: there's a dial to turn on and off the light on the emitter, but there's no indication which way is which, it turns infinitely instead of just between two settings, and it's unclear why you'd want to turn off this light in the first place, and it's hard to keep it locked to "on". Aside from all this, it basically feels like a cheap plastic toy. But it costs quite a lot of money, with typical prices between $40 and $90 (I'm not sure why they vary so wildly).
In short, don't get your hopes up too much on this, and wait until you see prices under $35.Read full review

Good for Cosplay
Because of it's light weight, the Diamond Select Phaser 2 is good for cosplay. Velcro can be applied to it's sides and it can be worn exactly like they were worn in the series. If you're looking for a collector's grade prop, this isn't it, but this is a good value and can be safely carried. Pair it with their communicator and you're ready for your next landing party!Read full review

Toy Phaser gun
This is a pretty fun product with multiple sounds, physical feel is good, fit & finish is very good. My particular product had some electrical issues where I intermittently lose 2 of the 4 phaser sounds. Overall, I'm satisfied with the product as it is very unique and pulls off the flavor of the 60s show.Read full review
