Stunning sound, needs amplifier

These cans are my favorite. I've owned many models and brands under $600. These Denons have weight and authority, but are also crystal and crisp when needed. They effectively present a soundstage and can put a sense of air around instruments if its in the recording.

They present prodigious bass. Yet, I have not heard them impose bass on music to the extent any other musical elements are obscured.

I do not love the headband. On my head, the cans are just a bit too loose. On the other hand, because of the design, I can wear these big cans while laying down with my head on a pillow and not disturb them a bit.

They are very low impedance. They do best with solid state amps. This is a shame, since my tubed Little Dot MkIVSE OTL amp is not a great match.

True high fidelity

7 1/2 hat size: just does fit me at lowest adjustment. At a 40 resistance, very usable. Low's are nice on this. Overall good sound, low bass is tight, doesn't interfere with mids and highs. Grandson will probably get this, he's a big guy. I"m not a sound snob, I like a popular signature, this has it. I'd say small to medium sized heads ought to stay away. When I put a balanced wire on these, I get true high fidelity out of them. Nice.Read full review

Amazing headphones for bass-heavy music

These headphones are fantastic. These are comfortable to wear for 3+ hour sessions. They have incredible bass output. These are ideal for more bass-heavy music (trance, heavy metal, certain classical, etc) but sound good with every genre I have thrown at them. They are a little heavy so you won't quite ever forget that you have them on but like I said they are very comfortable.Read full review

Denon older head phones sound much better

I found the bass quite Bassey over kill, couldn't EQ to compensate for it properly sound stage was not to noticeable .
Highs and mid ran a little low.
