Put a line in a tree quickly

The only caution I would make is the operator needs to hang on tight, it kicks a bit more than one would expect from a 22.
I don't have a dog. We attached a mono filament fishing line to it, still on the spool with the spool turned flat side to the direction of the "shot." Much like a fly casting reel. This way lines can be pulled up into tall trees to hoist Ham Radio Antennas or a rope for someone to go up into the tree to cut off limbs.
