A fence preserver that I expect should last a long time.
I had to replace a wooden post, arris rails, and feather edge fence 20 years ago, and chose to use Cuprinol Exterior Wood Preserver. At that time it cost £6 for 5L, appeared to be volatile solvent based, and beautifully soaked into the timber. About 10 years ago it seemed to disappear from sale, and when it could be obtained, cost massively more than ever before. Cuprinol seemed to have dropped this product, and sell a much cheaper product, in a round tin, which I am unwilling to use. In April the storms trashed over 6 metres of this fence. Just last week I was able to buy what appeared to be the original product, of the same name, and about £35 for 5L. I have used some of it now, and find it behaves completely differently. The product is water based, and does not seep into the wood very readily. The initial colour is truly horrible, but to my relief did change to the expected colour when it had dried the next day. The writing on the can is so small that I missed how to clean the brush (which has now gone hard). Hopefully, at the conclusion of this fence replacement I will feel better about the new formulation. Cuprinol never explained why they withdrew the original product, or why it should cost so much now.Read full review

Cuprinol exterior wood preserver
Brushes well leaves a slight gloss finish we can see will be more impervious to rain and sun than other makes we have tried in the past.

Seems a good product
It applies easily and looks to seal the timber well. Only time will tell how it performs long term.
From application and dried appearance it looks like a good long term solution.
