Early experience with the Celestron 5mp digital microscope

This product is OK for the price, but do not expect world class images. It is NOT handheld at all, just compact. The main use I have had for this instrument is for assisting with the identification of small insects and also looking at plant details that are hard to see with the naked eye.

The built in LED is not so useful as it gives very high contrast and renders the subject dark as a result. A good level of ambient light works better in my experience. The image of the fly is with LED illumination, the bee is with an external light. subsequently I have obtained slightly better images with daylight - the spider is one such image.

Depth of field is tiny, but that is no surprise; the more you magnify the more pronounced the effect. It is also a bit fiddly to focus and you need a steady hand!

In summary this product is OK for superficial examination of small objects but cannot render high quality images.

well made product but rubbish buggy software.

this item has very buggy software after install on windows 10 64bit computer it will work a few times then everytime you load software it will fail to detect the device. i have exhausted all avenues, contacted support etc reinstall, scope is great well made but software is a pile of dog poo. don't waste money and time as i did.Read full review
