Although it was made many, many years ago, this calculator (Casio SL100S) is the best, most rugged, and most reliable 8-digit pocket calculator that I've ever used. The display numbers are large and bright. Its size is perfect for my pants or shirt pocket. It folds in half with the screen and keyboard well protected from damage. Casio SL-100L Calculator

This is the second SL-100L I've bought for my wife. The first lasted over 10 years and I was surprised to find this model still available when I researched a replacement for the first SL-100L. This unit is compact, yet the display is quite readable. The clam-shell design provides protection when placed in pocket or purse - hence the 10 year life of the predecessor. There are a lot of choices for calculators out there. I like this particular one becauseI:folds and doesn’t take up a lot of space in my pocket; it has large numbers and us easy to read; it’s “dual-powered...solar if there’s enough light, battery when there isn’t enough light; it has the functions I need (like a fully addressable memory) and it doesn’t have a lot of the more complex trigonometric functions, which I never need.

If I could design a custom-built calculator, it would function like this, but I’d have it custom painted metal-flake blue.Read full review
