Great time synchronised multifuctional watch

This was to replace a PRT1300V model where an "R" was displayed when activating some functions saying the battery was failing. It was nearly 15 years old! At first I was dubious because it is a thicker watch than the 1300. However after wearing it for nearly 2 months it is OK even on my small wrist. The locking clasp feels as safe as ever.

The time synchronisation works as expected. The compass also is good, barometer, altimeter, temperature function. It has 5 alarms (24 hour repeat unless cancelled), time signal on the hour, stopwatch with 24 hour capacity, countdown timer. The alarm for this is slightly different it gives 4 low beeps and a final 5th when time is up in the remaining 5 seconds. World time has standard cities. The day name is always displayed, along with the year or tide.

The new features to me is the moon phase and the tide display. The moon phase has a limited set of phases if can display so is an approximation. The tide display has a datum of the "home" city. Using known tide settings you'll see it is correct, however my preferred tidal point (Blackpool) is totally different. The book explains how to change the "high tide time" and the watch applies an offset, and it is now synchronised with Blackpool high and low tides. It also indicates accurately neap tides and spring tides. When I say accurately, I mean the display shows the difference between these. However, like the moon display the actual high and low tide is an approximation but stays synchronised with the actual tides. If you move elsewhere in the world, you'll need to repeat this process to mark your local tides after you've changed the home city.

The negative points. The NESW rotating ring is USELESS. It goes in both directions and can easily move under clothing. The claim in the manual and description it is useful to remember a heading you're walking along is rubbish. For me it is a useless increase in the depth of the watch. The display digits are smaller, squeezed up for the moon display, there's no sweep second indicator. Overall the digits are smaller and for ageing eyes that's definitely a big negative..

In summary I'm happy with it, I can live with the criticisms above. It isn't a cheap watch, which makes some surprise of the plastic bidirectional non locking rotating bezel.

CURRENT VERSIONS LET DOWN BY QUALITY , ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND THE FIXED BEZEL

I bought 2 brand new from different parts of UK 2021. both alarms and beep sounds not working. I have £10 Casio and alarm works fine. bezel doesn't rotate although some stores tell you it does and if you're unlucky it's not glued on straight. clasp is lightweight and low quality and strap will be way to big. the functions, tide graph, barometer, graph, compass, radio control etc are amazing. battery charges well. made in ThailandRead full review

Trip the light, fantastic.

Excellent watch, so many functions (that I’ll probably never use but that’s not the point, they’re there if I need them. The two main points of this watch that I love most are 1, the lightness, unless you’ve owned a titanium watch you won’t understand how amazingly light it is and 2, that it’s solar powered. I have a 1st gen Seiko Orange Monster (kinetic) a Seiko prospex (solar) a citizen watch (kinetic/solar) and this one beats the lot for functionality.really pleased with this purchase.Read full review

Fantastic watch

Bought this without trying on or seeing "in the flesh" but couldn't be happier. Excellent watch full of functionality whilst being practical and stylish. Adjusting the strap does take either fiddly expertise or better to take it to a jewelers (H Samuel did a great job for me for £20) but worth every penny.Read full review
