Interim review is positive. I need to use the 220EX more
I bought the Canon 220EX for my Canon 7D because the built in flash has limited range. I bought this compact flash over the inexpensive, versatile but bigger Yongnuo models as I would be more likely to have the 220EX in my camera bag. The flash is quite powerful, and works every time. My only reservation so far is that it tends to slightly overexpose photos taken within about 7 feet (~2 m) on any setting I've tried. I need to experiment more. Cycle time is fast enough and I even took a good bounce flash photo by putting a white card at a 45 degree angle to the flash in a room with a low ceiling. I may increase the rating to 5 stars with more experience. drj3253Read full review

It's OK but am still looking for better.
Pros: compact, nice output, good recycle
Cons: shoe attachment is mediocre, no test button, no manual controls at all.
Even though I use on my 7D (should be same generation) it still doesn't seem to integrate fully with the camara. I have better results with a cheap insignia brand flash w/ manual controls than I do with this operating it through the camera.Read full review

Canon Speedlite 220EX
This is an older flash, and I first found it mentioned on Ken Rockwell's website; he recommended it for a good carry-around flash due to its good light output, fast recycle time, and compact size. All, it turned out, is true. A very good flash, even if not current.
The main drawback, as far as I'm concerned, is that the flash head is fixed--it doesn't rotate or pivot up-and-down. That aside, it has the pluses mentioned above, and I use it all the time, when I don't need my higher-output and heavier flash that does articulate. This is my go-to flash for most needs, most of the time.
(I use generic Harbor Freight rechargeable AA batteries in all of my flashes, which work great, but they tend to slowly self-discharge over time, sitting in the drawer, faster than standard batteries, so I always make sure to charge up my rechargeables before I know I'll need them.)Read full review
Cannon EX220 flash
use this flash on a Cannon G-9 camera, because built in flash sometimes does not have enough power. This flash takes care of that problem, makes it a non-issue. nice flash for this camera, not big and bulky, but vary compact and powerful. RonRead full review

Value Flash in a small package.
Great Product because it uses "4" AA Batteries and has a Red front focus aid function. Flash is not bulky and when used with a diffuser; is a great aid in small areas and does not take up a lot of space in your camera bag. This flash also does not add a lot of weight to your camera.Read full review

Canon Speedlite 220EX
Small sized flash with big capabilities. I needed the small size so it could be carried around easily. Mostly used for outdoor 'fill', but works great indoors in small to medium sized rooms too. Not really designed for large rooms or crowd shots, but could be used for fill if available lighting is fairly good.
Takes 4xAA batteries which easily give you 200+ shots (or more if you're using it for fill only). I like this flash better for my needs than the newer (and much more expensive) versions.Read full review

Works well. Looks good. Price was inline
Flash works correctly. Battery door sometimes does not stay completely closed. Worn a little. Overall exterior condition was in good condition.

Older is better
This tiny flash unit is superior to its newer versions in two ways. Faster recycling and a separate red light. With four AA batteries it is larger than the new ones that only have two, but not excessively so.Read full review
