Professional Camera but Many Options at this Price Range

1D Mark IV is a great camera. Let me get that out of the way. Built like a tank and can take good amount of abuse. Great battery life, weather sealed, dual card slot, very responsive with great autofocus. For best results, pair it with good Canon pro lens.

Personally I love shooting with 1D cameras. Love the "loud" shutter sound and feel of the camera. You just know you are using a serious equipment. It has 1.3x crop factor, last of its kind. I doubt Canon will make any more Aps-h sensor cameras. I personally like it as you get the extra reach but still have the depth of a full frame camera in the pictures(close to at least).

This is the first version with hd video recording capability, but don't see why anyone would get this camera for video as there are so many better options now for cheaper. This is pictures first camera. I used 1D Mark ii for several years than iin and III for a year. Mark IV is definitely upgrade to those cameras with higher mp and better high iso performance and with hd video, etc.

Still, at current used price, there are other options that will better suit most people. 6D has better image quality, better high iso images, jpegs are also nicer and raw is easier to edit. Also, it is a full frame camera and has more modern features and controls including wifi. Oh, it's also cheaper. Next, 5D Mark III is slightly more expensive and has lower build quality, but it has fast af, dual cards, weather sealing, and better image quality and high iso performance.

1D Mark IV is a specialty camera. For pros who want great image quality and extra reach with build quality to take abuse. 1.3x crop and can only take EF lenses so there is no way you can get an ultra wide angle lens for this camera unlike APS-C cameras which take EF-S lenses so you have more options in lenses including ultra wide angle lenses.

I don't want to make it sound like it is a bad buy since it is an excellent camera. But, wanted to let you know the limitations and different options you have. I sold it for 5D Mark III but still have 1D Mark II which I still love to use. There really isn't anything like 1D. I would love to get 1Dx someday but price is still out of reach for me at this time...

one of my best buy

I have used 5 canon DSLR from pro to entry, This is by far the best one in may aspect, value/price, IQ, size/weight, environmental, etc. I went to hawaii during Xmas in '19 with it. It went through rain, ocean trip, fog, sun bath, never failed. I shot every situation including back light and night, never have wrong exposure. excellent tough body.Read full review

Still an Awesome camera

I use couple of canon cameras like 5D mark ii, mark iii, 7D mark ii, 1D mark iii and now got this 1D mark iv. Though this an old model but the picture quality is very good and love the color tone. The iso level is still very good as I usually don't go more than 2000 iso when I shoot wedding or any other programs except concerts. As I use to use 1D mark iii so I know the battery capacity and you can't beat that. Auto focus is fast and accurate. 1D Mark iii had some issues with that but not mark iv. I think the price around $500 was a good price for the camera. Hope to enjoy it for long. BTW I did not like the 5D mark iv. So never wanted that camera. So went for an older version pro workhorse like 1D mark iv and I'm very happy with that as i don't do Videography. For a wedding photoshoot 5D mark iii, 7D mark ii, 1D mark iv what else you need. Great upgrade from Mark II

Features for still photography are leaps and bounds beyond the Mark II. This camera will improve the product for my customers and enhance my business. Competitive vendors have their "look" but Canon lenses just can't be beat for performance, sharpness, and durability. I am also excited to start incorporating 1080p HD video into my workflow. Great value from the used market. Read full review

Still a great camera

This camera came out a little over 6 years ago, but it's still a great camera. Autofocus tracking works remarkably well. High ISO performance isn't as good as my 5D mark III, but it's also not horribly far off. Jpeg quality is excellent, so I don't feel the need to process every image like on my 5D. Build quality is excellent. Battery life is excellent. If you find one in good condition for the right price, it's a winner.Read full review

Good camera

The delivery is fast. The EOS 1D Mark 4 is in great condition. It has only few scratches. It work fine with SDHC max at 32GB..(unfortunately: it is 2010 model)...it also work with micro SDHC/with an SD adapter...the only drawback is that I can't find out its shutter count...I now can put my old EF glasses to good use once again...its APS-H sensor means a 1.3 crop factor that doesn't coming out so bad...I have a 50/1.4 becomes 65/1.4 and my Tamron 28-300 gives 36-400 respectively... marvelous!

I recommend this pro shooter for a spin at an entry level price point with a decade old technology...

Canon 1D Mark IV

This camera is solid, literally and figuratively. It is heavy, but worth its weight for the quality of the pictures you can take. Pictures are so much clearer. The speed to capture sports candids is fabulous. It takes some time adjusting from the 60D/70D series to this, but once you adapt it is so worth it. Read full review

Built for creative versatility

This is a professional (s) camera. I purchased it used with 90k shutter actuations. Shutter rated for 300k shutter actuations. Very good value and in excellent condition, it clearly had been well cared for.
Has a 1.3 crop factor vs 1.6 on my 7D. Has a super fast 14 fps possible, will never miss great action shots again.
ISO from Bulb to upwards of 100K. Dual storage cards. Built in audio recorder (microphone) and full 1080p video capability.
I believe this was sold when new for around $6,000.00. If that gives you an idea of its likely sophistication, it should.
This is a large body camera & is solidly built, its heft confirms it. Add an L series lens to the camera and you'll definitely build muscle mass carrying it around. This is not a light weight device in any sense of the word.
