The Best all around Lens
The Film Masters had it right. As this Lens came out during the transition period to digital. The quality provided to Film Professionals is incredible. Very well built, metal construction .Living up to and setting the example for "L" Lenses. So there is no image Stabilizer, But so well built ,it is not necessary, unless you have Parkinson's or are panning videos. For serious Photography, this Lens is the secret treasure. Providing unequaled Image Quality and Sharpness. Bringing home the best Stills you can expect. A walk about wonder from Film to digital you can only dream of. DSLR Superior. Get a good one and your photos and Camera will sigh with relief.Read full review

Canon EF L series 28-80 f2.8-4 is AMAZING!
This lens is built like a tank. All metal, the glass elements weigh a ton, and it renders the most delicious film like tones since..well..film. I bought this to replace a 24-105 ( which I still highly recommend) and cannot be happier. Zoom is totally internal, unlike the 24-105 L. The extreme front end of the lens free rotates independent of the barrel, so any specialized filter you add ( polarizer, star, etc) will remain as placed without being affected by zooming or focusing. The original lens hood is harder to find than the lens itself, but I guessed correctly that the hood for the 45mm T/S is the same hood with a slightly different name. If you can find a clean version of this lens like I did, I would say "buy it". While not as wide as the 24-70 2.8, it was also $1000 less than even a good used one. And on a full frame body, I don't miss the 24 all that much.Read full review

Old but Amazing. Sharp Clear and Cheap!!!
To me it is a zoomable “Prime” lens. It is heavy but the later 28-70 2.8L or newer 24-70 2.8L are about the same heavy as well, So what!!!
28-80 2.8-4 comes with “Wire USM” which mean focusing ring needs “Electrical” and will only work when attached to powered camera. So what!!!!
Varying F2.8-4 doesn’t bother me as it is sharp from wide open. Read full review

Very good image quality
I like this lens, the image quality is fantastic, no vignetting or distorsions, and there are little cromatic aberration sometimes in the photos that can be easily fixed in post production. The weight for me it is not a problem at all, the focusing ring is so smooth, the zoom ring works properly, and it focuses quick as an USM should be. Maybe the only downside for my opinion about this lens is the not constant f2.8 aperture, but I do not really mind, and for a lens from 1989, I remained really impressed of the image quality so I am very satisfied.
Thank you!!Read full review
