The Canon 100mm F2.8 L Series Macro Lens. A must have lens for any serious photographer.

I had seen so many good reports about this Canon Lens ( Canon 100mm f2.8 L series Macro).
I had been looking at buying one for a while and so I decided it was time to get one to see if it was as good as the reports had said.
I am so glad I made the purchase.
This lens is outstanding and by far exceeded all my expectations.
For Macro photography you really need to try one to see just how good this lens is.
It is also outstanding as a portrait lens producing tack sharp images with that lovely soft boken that shooting a 2.8 gives.
This lens will be on my camera a lot.

Under the heading of all rounder

I call it an all rounder as, I believe a lens which can do all this can should be, although it is a prime.
It will focus down to 30cm and has three modes to focus at various lengths, this is to speed up focus.
It is also a great lens to have to give fairly tight portraits and semi tele shots, and lastly the tripod mount which effectively sends the centre of gravity backward to help balance the camera on tripods which maybe not as sturdy as some expensive ones so therefore would try to stop any wobble.
It is beautifully made, feels great and has a macro scale in the focus scale so at its closest it is 1:1.
Being an L lens it has weather sealing, Also there is no movement when focusing from the front element.
Handling is great, you can remove the tripod mount for handheld shots and it balances well with a full frame camera, obviously used with a crop frame would give an effective 160mm lens.
You need to stop down more with a macro and using it as such, because at close focus a wide open aperture would give millimetres of depth of field at most.

Pin sharp photos

Like all Canon lenes it's easy to use with a metal mount and produces pin sharp pictures both wide open and even better at about f8-f11. at f2.8 the bokeh blurs the image sufficiantly to make the subject stand out. this is a lens that requires a good quality sturdy tripod for macro use and manual focusing for the best results. once tried you will not be disapointed with this lens.Read full review

Pin Sharp! A must have lens for any photographer kit.

This was a great purchase, new never used and I saved a small fortune. The lens is pin sharp using with my Canon 90D. This lens allows you to get some fantastic macro images. You can then crop or zoom for even more fine image details without any softness of image focal loss. Image background blur works well for wildlife pics too. Read full review

Great lens

Great lens from a good company. As fixed focal length images are sharp but not always as convenient as a zoom. Great for macro. Well pleased.

Brilliant Lens!

I don’t think I can add anything that hasn't already been said.

A very expensive lens when purchased new but bargains can be found on eBay.

I would highly recommend this lens to anyone thinking of buying one.Read full review

You get what you pay for

Truly a pleasure to use. I have been playing at macro for quite a while using various simple techniques to keep the cost down. Whilst other methods can produce incredible images they require a lot of effort. With this lens for many subjects it is quite literally point and shoot. For standard close up the lens takes care of almost everything and when you need to get really close it is an excellent place to start from. Adding extension tubes and a reverse lens to the end can easily get beyond 2:1 macro where 12mm objects can fill the frame.Read full review

First Time into Macro

I bought this for a workshop in the autumn. I have used it several times. I love the images it produces. The ability to get really close and get 1:1 images means incredible detail can be obtained. It also works well as a portrait or general 100mm lens.Read full review
