Cambridge Audio A5 AMP
I bought this as a project. The schematic is good, and it is known to be a very musical amp.
It had some work to be done, replacing components, heatsink and power filter capacitors, but this is necessary if you want to bring it back to life and have a reliable usage afterwards.
In case you are planning to buy one unit like this one, remember to put a bigger and better heat-sink, replace all the electrolitic capacitors, check the trim pots as they tend to cause problems when setting the idle current (bias) on the power stage. The current itself is set by measuring the voltage drop across S and E pin on each N power transistor, after a warm up of say 5 min. It should be 13, 0 mV DC.
Apart from that the device is nicely built.
I would recommend it as a start amp, or as a re-build project to all those interested.
Regards, and thanks for your time!

The amp works, however the left output stops playing all of a sudden sometimes.. I need to knock on the amp / change its position for it to come back to playing.. I changed the cables, so it's not that. Read full review

Good basic amp
I needed a new amp as my old one had blown. Got this as had a one before which was reasonable quality for low price. This amplifier is equally good value and works well with my technics speakers. This will not be for any audiophiles, but more than adequate for the job with good highs and lows and reasonable clarity.
Tone controls do very little but slightly useful in my very humble opinion.Read full review
Good driver for 5" studio monitors
Was delighted to pick this up at a sensible price. Arrived promptly and well packaged. Lovely warm sound when connected to a pair of Gale Gold monitor speakers. Home office is now a little bit more like a luxurious escape than a chicken coup.Read full review

Very cheap but sounds good
Needs proper speakers. With my also cheap Tannoy Mercury MX2 and SUMIKO Pearl cartridge, sounds very good. Problems only with power and HF.

Check your turntable and make sure you don't need a seperate pre amp
I love this amplifier the sound quality is brilliant.its condition is pristine ,it arrived well packaged and on time .A word of warning for those who owned recording gear in the 70's and just decided to get back into the music again, unlike amplifiers of that generation that had pre amps built in .I would recommend that you also purchase a seperate pre amp unless you have a turntable with one already installed ,this does not apply to cd decks ,cassette decks or tuners these will just plug in and play ,it just applies to turntables ie of the 70s to80s .Read full review

Needs the preamp stage to make it useable.
This amp on its own sounds as flat as a pancake and is very quiet for its rating, I was disappointed after buying the A500 preamp which sounds great, fortunately together with the preamp it sounds good.Read full review

Good pound per sound
A well made, basic and creditable sounding Hi Fi amp which, in my opinion, is underrated by many people.
