Excellent value for money
Being an infrequent user of printers, I prefer to use a laser as Ink Jets tend to dry up if not used on a regular basis. Brother has always been a well respected manufacturer of typewriters and subsequently printers, so the choice of model was the only decision to make. It does everything said in the spec, and prints easily from ipads, as well as via wifi from laptops. Only one question - I have an old pc with no wifi facility but not sure if I can use the wifi and USB to print, or is it one or the other only. Not clear in the manual, so only gave 4 stars ! Colour is good, and the low capacity toners supplied with the printer should last me a good while. All in all an excellent printer which I would definitely recommend. Delivery was quick, with good communication from seller.Read full review

Good price features, but terrible printer
Unboxing: Quite a large printer. The paper tray is fully covered and takes about 250 pages. All needed consumables.
General use:
You want to use brother driver, rather than rely on the one windows installs. Text is just fine but images will come very poor. Situation fixed after updating to the latest driver.
Printing double side can be a pain. On most printers you can simply flip the pages and press a button on the printer to carry on. The brother requires the computer software to resend all the pages, so if the printer is remote to the PC this means you have to wait for the print job to finish, put the pages back in the paper tray, go to the computer, click ok and return to the printer. Very often the printer gets stuck here. The solution is to power it off and on again so that the wireless syncs again. This happens on other occasions too.
Wireless is bad. For most jobs the printer actually has to stop printing and wait for data to come trough before printing the next set of pages. This is where it sometimes blocks. I have no issues with other wireless devices (B/G/N) and I have a Samsung printer that prints whatever is sent to it in one go, without interruptions.
There is a slot to place letters or print double side (one sheet only). Its difficult to use and sometimes picks up the paper and refuses to print half way, requiring removal of all four toners. I never found the page to be misaligned, just some sensor issue perhaps. If one is printing the back side of a double sided page, one has to start again.
Print quality is good on this LED printer. Not as good as a true laser, but still decent. Regrettably I have found that often the toner doesn't always stick to the paper as it should. It will often come out leaving hands or other papers full of it. The print itself will obviously be ruined.
All in one. Would I buy this?
Hell no... Add a few extra ££ and get a decent model. the 3160 is better and personal opinion Samsung is on another league, so look at these (I have no affiliation with them).
Is it good for you?
Depends. One good thing about this printer is that toners can be reset, so potentially one could recharge them or use them till they are really exhausted. Print speed is decent and it has wireless. I'm not exactly sure what makes the toner come out on mine, I'm guessing it's perhaps fused at a temperature which is too low, so take all these into consideration before committing. Also don't forget the wireless problem. There is no RJ45 Wired LAN port on this printer, although there is a USB port.
Also note that there is no duplex unit, so double sided printing has to be done manually with the usual risks (if it picks two pages the whole job is ruined)Read full review

Colour LED printer good value
The LED printer is good value saving approx. £200 on the competition.
As it is Wifi able to relocate into the kitchen and use the computer in the lounge.
It is very neat but obviously a little larger than just a black and white.
Very happy with its performance. and value for money.Read full review

Brilliant colour laser
Had mine for about a year now and have to say it is superb. It is compact and very easy to use through either the USB cable or the WiFi.. Even the toners delivered with it have lasted well, unusual with a new printer. The screen is easy to read with the usual one line intuitive menu system. The print quality is excellent for normal day to day work. Compatible cartridges are very reasonable on Ebay. Read full review

Good, old design, wireless, single sided printing
Good quality colour printer, sharing consumables with other Brother colour lasers. Downloaded Brother software essential for easy wireless setup. No auto double sided printing, not the fastest. Wireless feature is to be valued, esp on an old product.Read full review

Lovely product tinged with frustration!
Please, please why was there no usb plug adapter included considering the price? Also life would be a lot easier for those who are not as computer literate if a manual was included so without the the need to spend ages trying to download the correct version in a format we could read. The display is not easy to follow without simple straightforward instructions, an 'idiots' guide would have saved me hours of frustration.Read full review

Substantial SOHO printer for Windows and Linux
This is quite a big, heavy printer and it feels like something that will last. The print quality is good, even on cheap paper, and the price I paiud was very reasonable. Check the spec before you buy though: this does not have duplex, for example. It's fairly quick and more than adequate for correspondence but probably not up to large-scale production of flyers. Setting up for Windows 10 was pretty easy: I downloaded the installation package from the Brother website, which is more recent than the one enclosed. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wants a reasonably priced colour laser/LED printer for Linux too. The automatic setup did not work so once again I downloaded a setup utility: there are versions for Ubuntu and Fedora. Just download and edit the properties to make it executable, before running it in a terminal window. The Ubuntu setup worked easily on Linux Mint, although it did take a while to complete, as did the Windows utility: just have patience and it will do the job for you. Once you have the printer working (best achieved with a USB cable initially), both Windows and Linux quickly find any other potential routes to it, using ethernet, WiFi, or a mixture. So it's good for any home or small office with a range of devices working together.Read full review
