Brilliant machine, at a great price

I am so pleased with this machine! Firstly, although it's classed as 'pre-owned' as 'a return', the machine was in immaculate condition, everything was in its original packaging, it looked brand new. Secondly, the machine itself is excellent. So easy to use, I was able to start sewing within 10 mins of opening the box. So many things I love about it, here's just a few..

The manual is excellent, so detailed, plus the quick start guide and DVD are also so useful.
The range of stitches is great, I especially love the decorative ones.
Being able to 'write' words with the font, and it saving the word into its memory...brilliant!
It tells you which foot you need for each stitch..no more flicking through a manual each time!
Being able to operate the machine through a button, you don't have to use a foot pedal if you don't want to. Plus you can vary the speed.
It will be a machine that I will never grow out of, as it has every stitch, and more, for anything I could ever want to sew, now and in the future.

I think anyone would feel confident using this machine, from beginners up to professional sewists. And the best thing about it? The price, at more than 50% off the RRP! Buy one, you will love it!

Another very capable Brother machine

A top brand, so you can't really go wrong. I would class this machine as mid to upper range capability. Good for the keener home sewer that wants some fun and a good range of capability for a host of applications. Bobbin system is a step up from the more basic machines, and does not have a separate bobbin carrier - just a nice simple drop-in system. For the less experienced user, the manual is excellent, and details each feature, plus good debugging for various issues. It has tables detailing what thread parameters to use, and tells you which foot types do what. Diagrams are clear and all well explained. Top quality build, simple top thread routing.
My two dislikes start with the foot lift, which is to the right side of the needle, under the bridge - worst place you could put it, in the tightest access area. I prefer around the back. Being right handed, I use the left hand to operate the foot lift, with the right for holding the work piece.... or rather I used too. Reaching all the way round to the foot lift with the left hand is not practical.
My second dislike is the needle threader - I reckon the stamping is not up to scratch for the all-important part with the hook that catches the thread. My cheap £130 machine was work of wonder and rarely ever failed me - a doddle to use, you just laid the thread across it, let go, and let the threader go, and hey-presto!. This thing is a pain, and requires the thread to be pulled into the back of the threader ,then pull up and forwards, before both hands let go. I can now get it to works about 60-70% of the time, otherwise a second or third try is needed. My guess is the hook stamping was made either with a worn tool (most likely), or it just lacks the correct rake / sharpness and so the thread is prone 'get away'.
I class these two issues as minor irritations, which time and practice will get around, and I have no regrets about this buying this machine - it's a very capable product.

Brother FS130QC

Fantastic machine for the machine, I use mine all the time, especially great for taking to classes. So light to carry and the extension table is a boom. Very easy to use and fantastic array of stitches, could ask for better and you have the Brother name which in my opinion is very good.
As of yet my friend has bought one the same on my recommendation and loves it and now this machine I got for my daughter who is thrilled to bit with her machine.
So thats 3 of us that's singing its praises.

Light, simple and it works

Very nice machine, instruction booklet is really easy to follow.
the patterns - just pop the numbers in from the built in cards on the front and sew it really is that easy.
The needle threader is a must for me and this one always works. I bought it as a replacement for an older Brother machine which was excellent also but did not have the features that this one does.
I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking of buying one.

Very happy

Quiet, easy to use . Many stitches , many feet, extension table . Press button to use without using the foot pedal , your preference. Buttonholes just press a button and it does itself. Hard case but many don’t have. On the whole very impressed Read full review

Lightweight with big machine features

bought this to use instead of my heavy Singer quilting machine (paid £900); Create and Craft had this machine on their site for £448. I paid £220 - the machine was in excellent condition and looked like it had never been taken out of the box! Okay no 3 year warranty, but to be honest I've got Brother embroidery machine and had a Brother sewing machine which my daughter now has - I personally don't think that it's too much to risk not having the warranty.
It took me a few months to take the plunge and buy this machine, but now I am really glad I did. it has all the stitches my big machine has, cost app. £600 less, and weigh a lot, lot less. I can't pick my Singer up with one hand, but can this one! Which is why i wanted it - i don't have room to leave machines out unless i'm working on a big project so wanted something that i could pick up, use for a short time and then pop back into it's storage space.
only one minor dislike - the auto thread isn't as good as the Singer, but hey ho, i have no real problems threading a needle.

great investment.

this is a fantastic sewing machine. it does whatever i give it to do, easily sewing through 6 layers of upholstery fabric so well. It is a worthwhile investment. I have had several cheaper machines. but they pale into comparison to this one. I have not used all the options available on it yet, but i look forward to doing so.Read full review

Brother FS130QC 130 Stitch Computerised Sewing Machine

Purchased this machine for the occasional repairs and adjustments to garments in the home. I am an inexperienced machinist, but found this machine to be very simple to use. There are probably far more programmes on this machine than I would ever use, but they are there if and when needed. So my skills as a sewer can improve as and when required.Read full review
