Does the job for the amateur
Accurately measures distance and requires very small investment of time to learn how it works. Instructions reasonably clear, though still lacking fine detail; maybe keep-it-simple is the best policy here. For measuring height using trigonometry (you measure base and hypotenuse and it calculates the length of 3rd side) you need a small platform with a level built in so you know your base measurement is proper for a right-sided triangle. Hard to see laser pointer in daylight, which was expected, but works at dusk in places bright during the day.Read full review

Best basic model Laser Measure Tape
This is a basic model and if you want something simple and easy to use. This is for you. There are other model with more features. But this is good for around the house use, like distance, area, and cubic feet. It has 4-6 different unit of measurement (inches, feet- inches etc.....) and shoots distance up to 165 feet. Bosch GLM 165-40.... is it a keeper?
Very nice unit. It has a "quality" feel to it. Small size, about the size of a hand-held digital voice recorder. The measurements are almost instant. If you are looking for a quality unit that does basic measurements well for a low price... this might be it. With what I know now, I would buy it again if I were to do it over. Read full review

Accurate Time Saver
Giving 5 stars until it does something it shouldn't or find a problem. Laying 450 feet of 4" baseboard with never ending detours around wood pillars, doors, partitions, and built-in stuff. Was always suspicious about laser tapes but needed something to speed this up. Every time checked against a tape it was dead on accurate. Even better, it allows you to measure-save-measure -save... so can take a list of cuts to the miter saw.
Haven't used the area calculation but have used the triangle solution. Couldn't measure the floor run with stuff in the way. Shot straight up to the ceiling, shot from that point to the wall/ceiling join and it gave me to floor run. Runs on rechareables and still running the first set of batteries. Good stuff.
