Won't hook to Wifi

I have two other units and they work perfectly but this one switch won't work as intended

Belkin WeMo Switch for use with a fan

I bought this switch unclear if it was suitable for use with a ceiling fan with a single wall switch but with no separate light or speed functions controlled at the switch level (not supported). My setup is pretty straightforward...one on/off switch for power with the lights, fan speed and blade direction all controlled by pull chains or a switch directly on the fan itself. I own an Amazon Echo and wanted something I could use to control my fan's on/off functions so I didn't have to get up in the middle of the night to turn it on when hot or turn it off when cold. Now I just say, "Alexa, Turn on/off Bedroom Fan" and it does so.

I received the box, there was little to it, really. I installed it and it worked easily. Connecting it to WeMo software app was super simple and getting Amazon Echo to recognize it and control it was a breeze. Do be aware that the unit absolutely requires an existing neutral wire setup to work. If you aren't sure, power down the breaker, pull out the old switch and look for a bunch of white wires all capped behind the switch that don't terminate anywhere. If you see these, you're likely good to go. If not or you aren't sure, call an electrician. Do not wire this yourself if you aren't sure. Electrical fire is not a joke.

The only thing that is disturbing about these switches and other smart home devices is the absurd cost of them. It's really not a good value, to be honest. But what is when convenience is the end game? Otherwise, this is a great gadget, works every time and hasn't dropped signal even once or not turned on/ff via voice command even once.Read full review
