Robust, simple and effective
Costing almost a quarter of its competitors the UMC404HD is perfect for a home studio. It lacks some of the bells and whistles and specifications of more expensive gear but for my needs that didn't matter. It is solidly constructed and cleanly set out. I've been using it for sax duets and it's just plug and play straight into your recording software on a Mac. You can record 4 tracks simultaneously so it's perfect for small groups. For Windows you need to download drivers from Behringer's website but no reviewers have complained about that.
You can just plug the USB cable in your computer to record unless you need phantom power in which case you would use the power cable provided. The documentation is no more than a quick guide, but even for a novice like me that was all I needed.
It doesn't come with any software unlike the competition which, I guess, has kept the price down. But if you're a hobbyist then you can use Pro Tools First, Audacity or Garageband and if you're a pro you're probably using pro gear any way, but I can recommend this as a mobile interface.Read full review

Best there is at this price point
The Behringer U-PHORIA UMC404HD Is an excellent addition to a small home studio. Not only do you get the 4 XLR/TRS inputs on the front with their own Midas pre-amps, you also get line insert options on the back to add inline compression, de-esser or other effects to the signal chain. 4 DAW addressable outputs are not too shabby either.
This unit only lacks an ADAT input / output to be absolutely perfect but at this price you can't beat it.Read full review

Umc404hd Interface
Good interface. Solid build, good preamps, and easy setup. Better than my focusrite 2i2.

Excellent piece of studio gear.
It does what it's supposed do, most of the time. The audio lag is indiscernible, it receives, you blend, and it sends 4 tracks of whatever sound where ever you want them (like a train switching station).
But since the last Win 10 update (the techies at Behringer tell me) the sound drivers have gotten flakey, I have to reset them often, like a chollicy baby that needs burping. I'm eagerly waiting for the stable drivers (techies working on it they tell me).
Behringer has a great support team down there.Read full review

Works great for live sound applications
Using this currently on my MacBook Pro retina (2012) with OS 10.12.6 (Sierra). Works great to capture Transfer functions on Smaart and fits in my backpack. This interface is better than my old Avid MBox3 (which cost twice the price and only has 2 inputs and outputs - the spdf)Read full review

Great item -- works well with Linux!
Sorry, but my daughter is too busy using and enjoying this while making music for a detailed review. It's good. Works well with Linux and ARDOUR 5.0. Also works with OBS and zoom.

Just what I needed!
Exactly what I needed for recording my quartet. You can adjust the input monitoring in your ears easily. The only thing that I need beyond this is a headphone splitter. It'd be great if this already had more than one headphone jack.Read full review

One of the best budget audio interfaces on the market right now.
Just a bit tricky to set it up in Windows, but once you get that dialed in, everything works as expected. Lots of flexibility with this unit. Worth a bit extra for two more mic preamps, vs. the UMC204HD, even if you think you won't need them.Read full review

SImply awesome! Easy to setup and it works straight out of the box.
Works straight out of the box. Both of my Windows 10 and Mac Sierra system recognized it right away and it took only a few minutes to set Pro Tools, Nuendo and FL Studio up routing the I/Os to the interface. Super low latency and great quality. I don't think I will ever use the 192KHZ setting on it but it's nice to have the option. The quality of the 48KHZ is simply adequate. Very satisfied! Another great product from Behringer.Read full review
