Great hardware, really poor Apple mobile app

Bought to replace Sky Q booster, which was suffering random dropouts and kept needing to be reset.

3-disc set in a 3 bedroom flat is doing a great job - coverage throughout for laptop, PCs, mobiles and tablets. Mobiles are correctly bounced from disc-to-disc to get the strongest signal, and was a breeze to set up (disabled Sky Q wifi, using BT Mesh only).

Only issue is the mobile app - it doesn't work correctly at all with iPhone XR on iOS 12 - constantly goes into troubleshooting mode when launched, claiming no internet access (even when everything working perfectly). This means a lot of the useful control features (e.g. ability to pause internet on specific devices) are lost. BT blame Apple, they don't have any fix other than directing users to use internet instead of mobile app - pretty poor customer service and problem ownership unfortunately.

Generally works well but with irritations

First thing, it's not made clear that this system requires one disk to be plugged into your router/hub via ethernet. This means that if your router is parked in your sitting room then you will have another bit of kit with its corresponding cables and wall wart. Messy.
Your router will work as before for ethernet connections. This kit just takes over the WIFI bit and you can change the SSID to your preference and turn off the WIFI on the router.
My router is in a cupboard and I already had a remote ethernet cable to a suitable point for the master disc. The system does not use POE so you will need a power socket for it and all the other disks.
I ran the app on an ipad and after installing the master disc the app failed to recognise it and stopped so the so called 'easy installation' of the other disks stalled. I plugged them in anyway and they booted up and after finding suitabke positions manually the system works well.
Plus points - good coverage and very configurable with a few quirks.
Minus points - no POE so this kit is aimed at the consumer with little or no knowledge. Set up app aimed at idiots and when it stops there's no where to go. Needs more basic info up front of the sales blurb.

Great Wi Fi coverage

My house is quite old with thick walls and so the wi fi coverage has always been a problem with repeater units needed around the house but they have been problematic in terms of reliability and I think they compete with each other for bandwidth. With the BT system the network is more integrated so they all work together and it provides good coverage throughout the house.

The system is easy to set up with the downloaded App and can be set-up to be the same as your old network to save having to re-set all your systems linking in

No more signal problems!

I was finding issues with intermittent poor wi-fi signal strength and data transmission speed in parts of the house, especially my study, which was irritating as I work from home. This Whole Home WiFi System has certainly resolved that problem - it was easy to set up through the the app-based management system and simple to connect my various devices. The discs are fairly easy on the eye too, which is helpful as they are 7cm in diameter and need to stand upright.
My only negative is I cannot get FaceTime to connect using my MacBook - it works just as well as ever it did when I connect to the old WiFi network, but won't work when connected to the Whole Home. Skype works properly, whatever the problem seems to be specific to how FaceTime interacts through the Home Hub. BT's techies are not being especially helpful.....
It would be a 5 star product if that problem could get resolved.

BT whole home wi-fi extender

This is a good system although quite expensive ,I had real problems in my large house with " black spots" in certain rooms when these disks were plunged in to the mains and set up which is very easy they did improve the wi-fi connection enabling me to use the I pad in every room. Certainly worth trying if you have poor hub coverage.Read full review

Definitely a better solution than lots of routers / repeaters

I bought this having already bought one three disc set. Because I have a property that is a bit spread out, it was very difficult even with three discs to get it to work properly throughout. However, each of the other desks really needs to see the disc that is connected to your router. While they can daisychain so one this can work from another, in practice the network doesn't always set itself up like that. So I have one frustrating part of the house with a disc which always operates with a poor signalRead full review

Easy to set up, great value and high performance!

Excellent product, dead simple to set up and works very well.....highly recommend to use Ethernet back haul for optimum performance! Best value for money MESH on the market in terms of price/performance/functionality. No BT router or subscription required!Read full review

Does what it claims to do and more.

Excellent . Easy to set up. We now have consistent wifi all over our house including patio .(large stone farmhouse). First time kids are not complaining about the internet. My only criticism is that the ethernet cable could be longer so as the first disc could be place further from the router but ethernet cables are as cheap as chips to buy on ebay.
Overall great buy at reasonable price and has made a fantastic difference to this home.

Great hardware, but mobile app doesn't like VPNs

Been using this kit for several months to fix poor wifi coverage in my flat.

Very easy to set up, solid reception throughout, and not a single dropped link yet.

Control is via mobile app - NB - be careful if using a VPN on your mobile, as this blocks the app's connection to Google to verify internet connection, so it will keep reporting that there's no internet connection and you'll not be able to use it. Disable your VPN (Norton Mobile in my case, on iPhone XR), and it works perfectly.

I can manage my son's gaming and surfing hours, switch device access on and off, and get a really clear view of everything on my wifi network.

BT Whole Home is ace

I put up with the Virgin media router for years before adding the BT Whole Home mesh Wi-Fi and it transformed reception. I have four of the units connected individually by 1Gb Ethernet to a network switch and that to the Virgin Media router providing 100Mb internet. I find it highly reliable and stable regardless of the number of devices connected. Highly recommended. Read full review
