A clear step up from the Black.

I've had a Dragonfly Black for a while which I used with my iPod at work. I listen to Grado 325 cans both at home and work. Thought I'd pick up a Dragonfly for home too and was curious about the Red. I got an Open Box which cut the price enough that it was a WTH. When it came I was prepared to pick through a few tracks and A/B with the Black to see if I could hear much of a difference.

That never happened. As soon as it was plugged in the difference was obvious. It's just better. Better transients, solid bass, better sound stage, better clarity. If you can swing it, go for it.Read full review

It’s a portable and effective way to bring your music quality back! I was skeptical until I got one. Audiophile sound from a USB stick.

The Dragonfly Red DAC significantly improved the sound of my Sennheiser HD6xx headphones when connected to my iPhone, laptop, and desktop. It improved the bass and rounded out the sound. They have good synergy with the Dragonfly Red. My only complaint would be that the volume control of the dac through an iPhone is not especially granular.Read full review

Great portable DAC for 96kHz 24 bit audio quality everywhere

A great little DAC when portability is needed, of course it does not measure up to powered Digital To Analog Converters or the ones found in audio interfaces costing 5 times as much. That was not expected, but it performs much better than the build in conversion coming out of my iPads and iPhones' 35mm and lightning ports. Very nice detail especially when listening to 96kHz 24 bit.

I was skeptical but the red dragonfly makes music sound a great deal better. Trying it out with multiple headphones direct from my laptop. The more I played the more the sound seemed to improve. Tracks from the 80's I found hard to understand are now clear. Some recordings that I know are bad sounded much better. wish I would have bought this sooner. Great Device! Handy little gadget

I was not expecting it to be an eye opening improvement over the regular sound path on laptop. I was proved wrong. It does make a difference. It makes average headphones sound great and good headphone to sound amazing.
Definitely worth investing your money in and it's so convenient.

Well worth it

I had wanted to improve my headphone sound but didn't want to go down the rabbit hole of extremely expensive headphone amp/DACs. This is the real deal. The headphones I had been planning on replacing are going to be staying in place. Detail and clarity I thought they were lacking turned out NOT to be the phones.
