A.P.S EF-150
Good little external filter but I made some mods. 1st the sponges are too thick so I cut them in half to provide less resistance of flow, faith more biological media and I'm able to use the other half of the sponge ones this wears out (see pictures). 2nd the hoses are 1.4 m each which is good is you wanted to store the filter under the tank but mine will be behind the tank so I will cut one of the hoses in half again to provide less resistance and again have a spare hose (see picture). 3rd the bioballs provided are good but not porous enough so I used lava rock from B&Q. 4th it's pain to bleed the air out so I tilted to the side with the pump facing up until I was able to flip the filter upside down with no air coming out of the filter. 5th it does vibrate a bit but is easily resolved by placing a towel underneath to absorb the vibration. I have ordered polyfilter to use as chemical filtration instead of activated carbon and able to use inline heater and inline co2 diffuser. All in all a good little filter. Rubbish
The pump has no power, recommended drop for the pump is a max 80cm, tried it at 80cm, useless, so cut the pump off and reattached it higher up the piping, ( with great effort and time ), pump now 30cm from the top of the tank, still useless.
Inlet and outlet attachments had to be adjusted with tubing as didn't fit the tank, ideal if you have the tank that the inventor designed it for ( whichever that is ), but not universal, but it would still lack power.

Does the job, well.
Pros- Quite, good quality parts, not too powerful flow, all parts necessary included, not too bulky.
Cons- tricky to prime as pump isn’t overly powerful,
Outlet/pump is on the side which will make it tricky to maintain/clean as when I’ll need to remove the entire filter (hoses and all) to do so.
Over all would recommend, good value for money, adequate for the right size tank, good quality.

People don’t know how to set it up correctly
I bought this from you and I was reading the reviews on eBay and also on amazon. I think people who give you bad reviews just don’t know how to set it up. I read that the pump isn’t strong enough to push it back up and they have it sitting on boxes or on top of the aquarium. What a load of rubbish. I never cut the hoses I’ve full size hoses and the canister down on the floor in my cabinet and it pumps back up the full length hoses you give me in the box. The trick to getting it to work without putting it on boxes or books etc is to hold it level with the tank and slowly bring it down to the floor. I’ve also two sponge filters and a skimmer.

Does the job but...

Easy enough to set up. Here's the but..
It will not work properly below the tank.
I have a 64litre tank so more than adequate, providing you set it up beside it. It was frustrating trying to get it to work properly. The instructions dont mention that it isnt powerful enough to from below. Also the only one not on YouTube for directions.
Finally with help we got it running, sitting next to the tank.
Its really quiet and hardly know its there. Not staggering flow but just right for my size tank.
Yes I would recommend it and towels to catch the overflow when you clip the lid on. Also cut the tubes down to size so the water flows easier.

Very happy with this fillter been using it since march 2019 with no trobbles what so ever .keeps my tank clean and water flow is realy good .as for priming the pump, i just connect the out let pipe back up after cleaning, then fill the fillter 2/3 of the way put the lid bk on plug it in and open the valve inlet valveat the same time and it dose the rest. Worth every penny
Absolutely fantastic external filter,good flow rate and so quiet. Water looks better already and my water tests are getting better. Fish seem very happy so I am too. I would highly recommend this as it's so easy to set up with only a couple of modifications to the lid on my aquarium.(cut 2 slots for the pipe fittings which took a couple of minutes with a junior hacksaw).Read full review

Really good product
Before I bought this item my aquarium was a nightmare to keep clear I used to have to clean the overhead filter every day and it was a real chore plus the smell from the tank was disgusting but since installing this filter the water is clear there is no smell and it's easy to clean which I do once a week when I do a 20% water change in wish that I had bought this filter ages ago well worth the money and easy to get replacement parts aswellRead full review

I was ready to return this item as I couldn’t get it to work, (1st time ever setting up a tank) the instructions did seem complicated to a beginner. But once the tubing was cut to right length we had success with this product, it was a simple as plug in and turn on, you do need to play around a lot to get it working but once it does it clear my water from grey cloudy set up tank to clear in 3 hours, filters now been running two weeks fine and fish are happy. Great value and good little item!
This is the first time I've set up an internal filter and thanks to the easy to understand instructions it went without a hitch.
The pump is well made and comes with everything you need to get it set up.
Only issue I had was the length of the tubing that comes with it - my pump is situated under my tank and it struggled to work using the full length of tubing that is supplied. I cut it down to the correct size and it works fine now.

A bargain buy!
After reading all the other reviews I wasn't sure if I had made the right choice with this filter, but I'm really impressed with it!. I had a little trouble getting it started but I held the cannister so it was level with my tank and then slowly lowered it into my cabinet. I have a 60L tropical aquarium and this is my first external filter. I didn't cut off any tubes or modified it in any way and it works great.
