Does what it claims. Very handy to indicate if you're safe to drive or not. As a rule of thumb: one unit takes 1 hr to leave the body. Always round up units on drinks (pint stella rounded up is 3 units). Add one for time it takes for liver to start processing 1st unit drank. One pint stella (3 units (rounded up)) plus 1 is 4. That means it takes approximately 4 hrs before safe to drive after one pint. 4 pints stella + 1 is 13 hrs before safe to drive. Start the time to wait from last drink. If you stop drinking at 10pm after 4 Stella, wait until at least 11am next day. Ive used this "system" for years. Also depends how healthy your body/liver is, and if youve eaten food. The Alcosense unit seems to follow the "system" ive previously used. After 4 Stella using the "system" it indicated 0.2 after 12 hrs and indicated 'LO' after 13 hrs. Alcosense unit is very simple to set up and small enough to carry around. I would say that if you took this to the pub and had a few beers then used it straight away, you'll probably get a false result. It takes time for alcohol to get in your system. You could initially blow a very low reading but 30 minutes later be over limit. This unit is best the morning after a session the night before. If you visit the pub, dont drink. Assign someone to drive who wont be drinking, get taxi or drink alcohol-free beer. The cost is reasonable compared to what can happen for drink driving offences.Read full review
