good for adding large externally powered HD to very old laptops
these serve a specific purpose. old laptops from the early 2000's that have USB1.0, and a PCMCIA card.
PCMCIA card slots are almost extinct, and laptops later went to USB2.0 and now they usually include USB3.0 ports. A USB1.0 is painfully slow to transfer files from a flash drive or external hard drive. the USB1.0 is great for a mouse, I have used these cards with very old Compaq M700. TO add an external (powered) 2TB Hard drive to make a good Karaoke/DJ system with XP. the file transfer would not work good enough with USB1.0. there is a plug in where you can borrow the power from the native usb port to
add power to this card, but starts to make things bulky . this device does not need drivers. The connector sticks out a little bit, be careful when storing it in a laptop bag. Maybe eject card and put it in a pocket inside the bag.Read full review

Works good on older OS like win xp
Ordered these for a senior uncle who still uses older laptops running older windows like xp. According to him, it worked like plug-n-play. it was recognized right away and the driver was immediately loaded (or maybe windows update found it online automatically). it is used mainly for peripherals like usb flash drives, keyboard, mouse etc. and works great. It has not been used on higher power devices like a large external hard drives so cannot comment on that.. Overall well made physically and technically, and due to eBay great price, value for money. Senior Citizen is Happy with this gift!Read full review

Extending the usefulness of a computer
I bought this to help keep my older laptop running. The USB ports on it had broken (the plastic supports broke off). I need some USB ports to be abel to use flash drives and a remote clicker for slide shows. This has worked wonderfully. The computer is running the current version of 64-bit Ubuntu and had no problems being recognized.Read full review

Works well if bought at the right price, definitely retro tech.
Cheap plug and play solution, but cartoonishly big with retro over bright led lights.
This was a replacement for an HP card which stuck out half as far, but at $8 shipped, I can't complain.

Works very well
Great card bus adapter, easy to install, worked in laptop right away. Bad news, post office missed their guaranteed delivery again.
