Great third-party-refurbished product at a great price

APC makes great UPSes. Even their low-end products are category leaders. The Back-UPS XS 1300 is about the middle of the APC product line - and it's a superb unit, even refurbished by a third party. It comes online instantly in the event of a power failure or power surge, and relinquishes control the moment the AC line stabilizes. It can be configured easily to sound an alarm when it activates or remain silent. APC's PowerChute monitoring and control software (which is not included with this refurbed unit, but which can be downloaded for free direct from APC) is capable of gracefully shutting down Windows, Linux, and Mac computers when the batteries in the XS 1300 are running low. The XS 1300 can power my multi-media rig (300-watt stereo amp, Windows 7 computer, 2 external hard drives, 42-inch LCD TV) for nearly an hour with new batteries installed.

One caveat: this refurbished unit does NOT come with batteries, so you'll have to suppy them. (It takes 2 batteries, so be aware of that.) If you buy OEM, third-party batteries, they usually do not include the battery wiring harness for the XS 1300, so be sure to include a note requesting the battery harness be included when you order the UPS.

Just okay

Product appears to handle a load. I have not experienced a power outage yet so I will need to check the battery. However, it will not connect to my computer. It appears that something is wrong with the unit's communication system as it just will not connect. I have tried several new cables but nothing works. I wish I had bought a new UPS.Read full review

Good, fairly quiet UPS

Pretty quiet, the fan seems to only run in battery mode.

Battery mode kicks in fast enough so none of my attached electronics shut off.
