AKG K550 Headphones - Black

yes, these won the Hi-Fi award back in 2012. they are cheaper now because it's now 2016, so you can get a great deal on these cans. They have award winning AKG quality sound, comes in a padded nice box for easy shipping, the cable does NOT unplug from the unit, and the sound quality is incredible. I can't say that these would be good for studio sessions, but for DJ ing gigs and home listening they are exactly what I was looking for. Crisp highs, great midranges, not muddy or sounding like you're listening through a sheet of paper. great bass response, and they are great with a headphone amp as well. In fact, these headphones don't shine until they have the correct impedance to the speakers. I forget how many watts the speakers are, but if you give them the correct amount of power, they really come alive. AKG are made in China, but designed in Austria. The cons of these headphones might be : 1. the cable doesn't unplug, therefore, when it goes if it goes, the headphones are probably does too. 2. If listening through an iPod without amplification, you might get less performance than say with a pair of SkullCandy earbuds that take little power to run.

This is my second experience with AKG headphones. My first pair was the 551's and now these 550 MKII are almost identical in sound quality, fit and build quality.
