Dr. Aldrete is an ancient historian who goes to the movies!

Professor’s lectures are interesting regarding depiction and use of Roman history in Hollywood’s sword and sandal genre in selected films from the 1951 Quo Vadis? and up to the more recent Hunger Games. Only drawback which is pointed out on The Great Courses website is that the course lacks sufficient still picture or video clip illustrations. It’s old school college lectures alone which could be followed up by watching the movies themselves or appropriate film clips on the internet which probably owing to copyright costs are not in the course. With appropriate illustrations, the course would earn five stars.Read full review
