My 'goto' hf mobile antenna
I've only done HF mobile in a pickup truck so I've always had the room to store these longer antennae in the bed.
I've used several brands of this 'stick' type antenna and the mfj is about the same as far as build quality goes.
the plastic covering may be thinner but that is trivial. I much prefer the whip adjustment ferrule that mfj uses over the older slide and screw only type of the lakeview. a couple other makers use this separate ferrule type as well and allow you to take the whip off the mast without losing your 'match' setting.
they perform just like any other shortened 1/4 vertical. it is a compromise but it easily matches and radiates as well as the design can.
you can get several bands for less than a 100.00 u.s. total.

great 20 meter antenna.
I purchased this to create an off center fed dipole. The Vinyl wrap is heavy and feels as if it can handle being in the sun for some time. This makes a great mobile as well as a station antenna. Some folks dislike these antennas for whatever reason but they do work great!Read full review

Good but cheap Allen screws. Good value
Not bad but not perfect. I've owned many Mini shark Antonis in the past but this is the first full size 1. It's too tall to drive down the road with, but at a stationary parking spot it is wonderful. It took me a few minutes to tune the s w r. The only thing I don't like about all these antennas is the cheap chinese-made Allen screws they put in them. They strip out very easily and it's a real pain. Just tuning the SWR gently stripped mine out. I always mark my antennas and make sure I know that they are in the right spot even after tightening the Allen screws. This is the best damn value you will find no for an antenna and like this that works wonderfullyRead full review
