Great for starting a lot of plants - nothing to big

This item is great for taking cuttings or planting seeds of a large volume of plants. I bought the item for taking cuttings of local tree species for a bit of planting around the landscape, the lid is not very high of the top of the root trainer. This isn't a massive problem just caught me by surprise. Otherwise this is a great product an I would recommend.Read full review...

Good product but could be made with stronger material.

On the Plus side its a very good product and works well. I sowed runner beans and the resulting root ball was perfect and easy to transplant.
On the downside its a bit flimsy and needs a little extra care when handling, I'm not sure how long the cells will last. Time will tell.
Overall.
A neat little product, sturdier construction material for the individual cells and it would have got a 5 star rating.

Good idea but handle with care

This is a brilliant idea, I've read elsewhere that they don't come with instructions but it's not rocket science to figure out that the books fold in half and go into the frame...
My only reservation is how durable they'll be because the books are very thin fragile-feeling plastic and I suspect they'll need careful handling when full of soil and plants to avoid splits or other damage. Also the plastic is so thin that several of the books have holes, presumably blown during the moulding process but this doesn't stop them being used (hence my ticking 'no' under "Is it good quality").
Probably a good idea to store them out of the light so they last longer?
I bought 3 sets so thats 96 plants on a 27" x 15" shelf and I'll probably buy more so I can grow a lot of seeds in a comparatively small space.

A must for bean and sweet pea seeds

This kit is perfect for sowing runner beans and sweet peas which do not like their roots disturbed when transplanting. It is lightweight, the deep cells fit perfectly in the cradle and it has a clear lid which retains moisture and allows for checking growth. The kit is also infinitely reusable. A top class product.Read full review...

Greatfpr letting seedlings develop long root systems

This is a very simple design that, although lightweight, is very sturdy when constructed. The depth of the containers and the fact that they fold open and shut means that transplanting on causes minimal damage to the root system. Simple and ingenious.Read full review...

These root trainers give excellent results

I have two sets of these root trainers and they are excellent for plants with a long root system i.e. beans and sweet peas. Very easy to use and although not very thick, if treated with some respect and stored properly they can last years. One of my sets is over 10 years old and used every spring.

They normally come with a paper sleeve with full instructions for use but this particular supplier does not include the instructions. As an experienced gardener I know what they are and how to use them but the set I purchased recently are a present for a friend who may not be familiar with them or even know what they are when she opens them. Luckily I have a spare sleeve I can use.

When I looked again at the illustration, the picture does not show the sleeve. I contacted the supplier and queried the lack of instructions and they responded immediately - the explanation was because they buy in bulk. So they are 'as advertised' so I cannot fault the supplier at all. They arrived before the estimated delivery, well packed and they responded to my query in a satisfactory way. Please do not let this comment put potential buyers off but just be aware if using for the first time. Other reviewers have explained how they work so read up, purchase and enjoy the results!

Well designed product for easy veg/flower growing form seed.

I haven't used this yet as I bought it having struggled to seperate my small plants in order to grow them on - this product is sturdy and should avoid damaging roots at that horrid seperation stage and will also save me a lot of time - well designed product which I am looking forward to using.Read full review...

Excellent product - easy to use.

Brilliant. Wish I had bought them years ago. Lovely long straight roots on my broad beans which I have now planted in the greenhouse for an early crop.

root trainer

neatly folds. compact packaging. Deep enough for deep rooted plant seeding like curry leaf plants. Reasonably priced and I am very happy with the purchase.
