What is Simple Delivery?

Once your item sells, you’ll receive a prepaid printable label and QR code, which automatically includes tracking for your order so you can get paid faster. The best part is your items are fully protected in case of loss or damage in transit.

How does Simple Delivery work?

1. Confirm the recommended package size
We'll suggest the package size based on items like yours, so you don't have to worry about getting out the tape measure and scales. Just confirm the package size and we’ll do the rest. Your buyers can then choose a standard or express delivery option at checkout.

2. Generate your prepaid label
Once your item is sold, generate your prepaid QR code and printable label from your order details or email. If you don't have a printer, no problem. You can use the QR instead.

3. Post your item using the label
Use the prepaid QR code or postage label to drop off your item at a convenient courier location, or where available schedule a home collection with Royal Mail through their website.
Note. Royal Mail has advised post offices to accept all Simple Delivery packages, as long as the parcel remains within the maximum weight and dimensions. These are 20kg and 61cm x 46cm x 46cm.

Do I need to do anything with my current listings?
Starting from 7 April, Simple Delivery will apply to your existing live listings that are eligible, so you can enjoy more protections and benefits. If you selected buyer-paid postage, this will stay the same when your listings are updated. If you’re covering the costs, they’ll be deducted from your sales. Please note that in both cases, the costs may change.
This change may mean that you’ll be sending your parcel with a different courier to the one you selected when listing. Once your item sells, we’ll let you know where to drop off your parcel.
Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will automatically apply to all new eligible listings.
Do I need a printer?
No. If you don’t have a printer, just use the QR code from your My eBay and Seller Hub Order Details page, or the one that was emailed to you. There’s no need to print out the postage label, just take the QR code with you when you drop off the item at the courier location.
If you’re posting with Evri, you can print off the Evri postage label at one of their drop off locations by scanning the QR code or entering the associated 6 digit code.
Please note, if you’d like to include a packing slip with your order, you’ll need access to a printer. You can print a packing slip from the Postage labels page, My eBay, or Seller Hub.
Can I adjust the size and weight details of my item?
Yes. If we're unable to determine the size and weight of your item accurately, you'll be asked to pick the correct parcel size when you list it. This ensures you receive a suitable postage label when your item sells. You won’t be able to edit the size and weight of the item after it has been sold, but the courier will accept your package provided it remains within the maximum weight and dimensions of the service.
Can I change the recommended parcel size?
Yes. If you think our recommended parcel size is incorrect, you can select a different size when listing your item. If you don’t use the recommended parcel size, and your item ends up exceeding the maximum size and weight of the label, you may be responsible for covering the additional costs of sending your item. This includes the difference between the parcel size and an administration fee of £1 including VAT.
If you use the recommended parcel size and your item exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, you won’t be charged any additional costs. Just go ahead and use the Simple Delivery postage label. The courier will accept your package providing it remains within the maximum weight and dimensions for the service.
Can I arrange for my item to be collected?
Collection is available with Simple Delivery through Royal Mail. If you'd like your sold item to be collected, be sure to select Royal Mail as your preferred courier. Once your item is sold and you've generated a prepaid label on eBay, book your collection on the Royal Mail website.
We’re working on bringing you an option where you can request the label to be brought to you, which will be available soon.
What is my handling time?
Your handling time is defined as the length of time it takes you to package and send off your item. You should aim to send your item within 2 business days to ensure that buyers receive their order quickly, and we're able to estimate the delivery date accurately. You can select a maximum handling time of 3 business days. When using the prepaid label and sending within your stated handling time, your seller performance standards and service metrics won’t be affected by late deliveries. See our Seller standards policy and Service metrics policy for more information.
Is Simple Delivery available for international shipments?
No, Simple Delivery is available for UK domestic deliveries only. However, if your item is sold to a buyer overseas and you use the Global Shipping Programme, you can use your Simple Delivery label to send your item to the UK shipping centre. Your buyer will be charged for the label, unless you've offered free postage.
Courier and postage rates
Which couriers are available and what are the postage rates?
Simple Delivery currently uses Royal Mail and Evri. You'll automatically be opted in to use both couriers. If you have a preference, you can go to your Postage Preferences and adjust the toggle next to the courier under the Simple Delivery settings. Bear in mind, if you choose to exclude couriers, delivery costs may increase, and your item may be available to fewer buyers. If you need to have your items collected, you should exclude Evri.
There may be cases where we’re unable to honour your courier selection, for example because of the weight of your item. If this happens, we may provide a label for a courier you've excluded.
When your buyer pays at checkout, they may be able to choose a standard or express delivery option. If they choose express, your handling time will still be the same – this is just the speed the item moves through the courier network.
We’ve negotiated postage rates with Royal Mail and Evri to provide you and your buyers with competitive rates that include tracking for your item, as well as full item protection.
Here are the rates:

How are the delivery costs determined?
We’ve negotiated postage rates with Royal Mail and Evri to provide you and your buyers with competitive rates that include tracking for your item, as well as full item protection.
When creating a listing, you'll see an estimated delivery cost for standard home delivery. You can choose to pay for postage and offer your buyers free delivery, or have your buyer pay for it when they purchase your item. We may periodically give promotional offers for delivery cost discounts, including free postage. Delivery costs may change based on the item's final sale price.
After the sale, you can check the delivery cost paid by the buyer in the Order Details, Postage labels section in My eBay, your order confirmation, and postage label invoice. If your buyer selects an express delivery service instead, they'll pay the full delivery cost, and you won't be charged.
There are no transaction fees applied to the delivery costs when using the prepaid delivery label that comes with Simple Delivery.
What will the transactions look like for the delivery costs?
If you choose to have your buyer pay for postage, your buyer will pay for this at checkout. These delivery costs are paid to eBay, and will cover the cost of the label.
If you choose to pay for postage, the cost will be deducted from your account.
Using your prepaid label
How is the label provided to me chosen?
We’ll take into account the buyer’s location, the item location, your distance to a convenient drop off point, the appropriate delivery service for the item you're posting, whether the buyer has selected a standard or express delivery service at checkout, and your courier preferences, amongst a number of other factors.
Can I use one label to post multiple items to a buyer?
If your buyer has purchased more than one item from you in a single transaction, you’ll receive one prepaid label for posting your items to them. You can only use the label provided once.
If your buyer has purchased items from you in different transactions, you’ll receive separate postage labels to post each of the items.
What should I do if one of the addresses on the label is wrong?
If you’ve already generated the prepaid label and the buyer’s address needs to be changed, please cancel the order and ask the buyer to repurchase the item. See our Help page for more information. If the sender address is incorrect, please reach out to our customer services team.
If you haven’t yet generated the prepaid label, you can update the recipient’s name, as well as the first and second lines of the address. Other address details can't be modified so if you need to make changes, the best thing to do is cancel the order and request that the buyer repurchase the item with the correct delivery information.
If you need to correct the sender address, you can do so by following the instructions provided when generating your label. See our Help page for more information.
What happens if I don’t use the prepaid label?
If you choose to purchase your own delivery label separately, you’ll have to cover the cost. You’ll also be unable to benefit from any enhanced cover for loss or damage to the item during transit. Any claims due to loss or damage in transit will need to be addressed directly with the delivery service provider, from which you have purchased the label. Your seller performance standards and service metrics won’t be protected for late deliveries if you don’t use the prepaid label within your handling time.
How can I track the status of the item?
You can track the status of your item in the View Order Details section of My eBay or Seller Hub.
Protections and returns
How is my item protected?
Items are protected against loss or damage from the moment they are scanned into the courier’s delivery network until they are marked as delivered by the courier. There’s also no need to call the courier or customer support. In the event that a buyer raises a claim for an issue that occurs during transit, you won’t be held responsible. Even fragile items are protected when you follow our packaging guidance.
There’s no cover limit for eligible items with Simple Delivery. They’re fully protected for the amount they were sold for on eBay providing you post the item using the prepaid Simple Delivery label provided, comply with the eBay delivery Terms and Conditions, and properly package the item.
How can I ensure my item is properly packaged?
After you’ve sold your item, it’s important to pack it securely, in the right type of packaging, to make sure it gets to your buyer in perfect condition. Here are some tips on packing your item:
- Choose a container that’s slightly larger than the item, so you can cushion it with packing material on all sides.
- Surround the item with bubble wrap, packing peanuts, foam, or paper (so there’s no room for things to move around).
- Use clear or brown packaging tape, eBay-branded tape, reinforced packing tape, or paper tape, which should be at least 2 inches wide.
- Don’t use masking tape, cellophane tape, cord, string, or twine.
- Tape the opening of the box and reinforce all seams and edges.
- Clearly label the package on a flat surface and include a return address.
- If you’re reusing a box, cover any previous labels and cross out any previous addresses with a black marker. You can also print a packing slip and include it in your package when you print your label.
- For aerosols, batteries, food items and fragrances, see additional information on packaging requirements.
Can I still use business policies?
Starting 7 April, certain features on the eBay app will no longer be supported. This includes business policies, the ability to set a handling time of more than 3 days, adding a custom SKU, subtitle, and Global Trade Item Number, and using the Gallery Plus feature.
You’ll still be able to use business policies when listing through your web browser, but if you’d prefer to list using the app, you can disable business policies in My eBay. The policies set on your existing listings will not be affected.
What if the courier doesn't accept my package?
Items that don't comply with the eBay delivery Terms and Conditions may not be accepted nor protected during transit. To avoid any inconvenience, make sure your items comply with the terms and conditions and prohibited and restricted items guidance.
If everything with your package is in order but you're still experiencing issues at the drop off point or with the courier, please visit our Help Hub or get in touch with our customer service team.
The buyer is contacting me regarding the delivery. What can I do?
Buyers can easily monitor their order's delivery status from their 'Purchase History' section, where they will find a clickable tracking number linked to the order. Find more information on our Help page.
What happens if the item cannot be delivered to the buyer?
The courier will make three delivery attempts, and if they're unable to deliver after the third attempt, the item will be returned to you.
What should happen in the event my item is lost or damaged during transit?
Your buyer should raise an “Item not received” or “Arrived damaged” claim as applicable. See our Help page for more information.
What happens if the buyer wants to return an item?
Should the buyer request a return, you may be responsible for refunding the buyer any outbound delivery costs for the label provided to you (including for express delivery), in addition to the item cost. See 'How to handle a return request as a seller' for more information.
