The 150mm f/4.0 is a unique, special application lens offering variable soft focus and can be used as a normal application telephoto at smaller apertures. It is the prime lens for many portrait and wedding photographers because of its unusual and controllable soft focus effects using designed-in spherical aberration at apertures from f/4 to f/8 and a set of three diffusion discs. The combination creates soft focus images that appear sharp at the same time, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming retouching. At f/8 and smaller apertures, it renders completely sharp, normal images. Its 150mm focal length makes it ideal for small studio working distances.

A niche lens. Donot buy without discs.
This is a large lens albeit made for 6x7 format, Rather heavy for 35mm users. I use it with Sony A7r2, with an adapter., in aperture priority mode or manual mode only. However the main attraction is soft focus capability. You should have three dics which control the degree of softness. You unscrew front part of the lens and drop the chosen disc. Also the aperture has to be between 5.6 and 4 , otherwise the discs are not effective.( you need to use the peripheral part of the lens). Made for studio use.
