When it comes to collapsible tripods, the Gitzo GT2541 represents light-weight rugged strength. Made of six layers of carbon fiber, this collapsible tripod features telescoping legs. This Gitzo tripod allows photographers the ability to choose three set heights, as well as multiple inter-position heights, thanks to the tripod's leg locks. What's more, the Gitzo GT2541 also features a column hook, which allows users to add a hanging weight to the assembly allowing for better balance, especially in windy weather, and a more perfect photo. While it weights less than four pounds itself, this collapsible tripod can hold up to 26.4 lb, and exhibits a 20 percent rigidity improvement over past versions. If ground conditions aren't optimal, the Gitzo GT2541 features removable leg tips, so the tripod can be balanced on other Gitzo products, like Gitzo long spikes or Gitzo big foots. Gitzo GT2541 Mountaineer tripod
This is what I would classify as a medium weight carbon fiber tripod capable of supporting camera weights of around 20 to 25 pounds. This enables use of any camera I have, including the 4x5 cameras. Compared to other tripods of it's size, it is lighter in weight and fairly compact, mostly due to the carbon fiber legs. The tripod with a 4x5 camera mounted is rock steady and vibration free. You get what you pay for. Great but expensive.
You get what you pay for - a quality product which will last a lifetime. My last Gitzo Studex is now over 40 years old, in use every day it's been around the world multiple times, been in desert sands, tropical seas and frozen lakes and tundras. Battled goats, and camels and bashed by customs officers and hotel porters. And it is is as good as new. Only reason I wanted a carbon fibre is that I'm getting older and want to carry less.
