Best Radar Detector I Have Used

It leans as you drive, and you can mute specific areas where false alerts are common due to X band. Great range. Love that it plugs in. Which you could tell which direction the radar is coming from, but they are working on that.

    Seems like a step backwards

Many years ago I bought my first detector, an 8500, and it lasted me a long time. By the time it died, the Redline had come out, so I bought one of those. It's an amazing detector, but very expensive, so I keep it in my fast cars. I wanted a detector that I could leave in my slow car and found a NOS 9500ix for a hundred bucks, couldn't pass the deal up. First thing I noticed about it was how light it was. Expensive fancy things are heavy according to Jurassic Park, and the 9500 feels like a toy compared to my Redline and what I remember about my 8500. Second thing I noticed is that it rarely picks up a weak signal which gets stronger, it generally doesn't pick up a signal until you're right on top of the cop, which it announces in full panic mode, and then sometimes will taper off, but most times will go from panic mode straight to no alert, as if the cop just turned off their Stalker. Seems to me that it's just not as good of a detector as the 8500 was, and of course it's nowhere near the level of the Redline. What's funny though is that it's still sold, new, by Escort, for $300 on their website. Not worth it. It's worth the hundred bucks I paid for it. I tried updating it online, and it did accept an update, but the performance didn't improve. Basically I just keep driving my slow car slow and use it as a reminder in case it does happen to pick up the fuzz nearby. I'd never use this model in something I drive with a littler more spirit, I'll rely on the Redline for that.

  • Awesome detector!

Escort is a reputable brand as it is, so I had little to worry about buying one. It's easy to use and works perfectly fine even though it was used. I ended up purchasing the hardwire kit so I could line it directly into the fuse box getting the main wire out of the way, and it fits perfectly above my rear view mirror. For anyone on the fence between this or other models in this price range, you can't go wrong with the 9500ix. It's easy to use, more than loud enough, and has great range (already saved my a** more than once). Plus, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a ticket. The GPS functionality is really nice too, as it allows the detector to filter out false positives (eg. Automatic doors at stores) in areas you commonly travel through, so you pay attention when it goes off. All in all, awesome detector at an awesome price used vs. new, I would definitely recommend it.

  • This has been consistently among the top 3 radars every year for the last 6+ years.

Just that says everything. Among every radar detector in all price categories the Escort PassportIX has been in the top 3 and usually #1 for at least 6+ years (I'm not sure when it came out, but I'm familiar with it going back to 2011) among every major magazine/electronic testers/etc., that puts out a ranking system of the top 10 radars of 2017, 2016, etc. This one is always right there around the top 3 outperforming ones that are a lot more expensive. I think this last year it was beat out by another one that Escort puts out that's like $2,000. I'm not familiar with a lot of the technical jargon, but this has always signaled me with plenty of time to slow done. It also gives very few false positives, in which case it has an automatic corrective measure that will fix itself if you go through that location on a regular basis. Getting a radar detector with minimal false positives is essential... they end up being pointless if the majority of the time when they go off it's a false positive, because it ends up being like the boy who cried wolf and just a nuisance that's more problems than it's worth. You may want the best radar detector in the under $150 price range, which I'm sure there is a very good one in that price range as well. I'm curious what the disparity is between those and this one. If the retail of $449 for this one is too much, the good news is, you can usually find plenty of used/open box escort passports for under $250 and with a little deeper searching for under $200.

  • Great Radar

Far superior to its predecessors, this radar has helped prevent numerous encounters with the city and state, a wise purchase to help keep insurance premiums down. It has an amazing range capability, and the GPS feature really does help cut out false alarms. It has only gone off a handful of times, but it is usually because of actual warnings. Would buy again or a more updated model from the same company, earned my business for years ahead.

  • Best Radar Detector For The Money

I have had five Escorts Radar Detectors over the years and this one is by far their best yet. It performs exactly as stated in their advertisements and in my opinion it out performs what they say it will do. Just returned from a trip to Texas where the speed limits are 75 mph on most of the highways including the interstate system. This is plenty fast but when you get to all the little towns off the interstate, their speed limits go from 75 mph down to 30 mph in about 200 yards so you have to be real careful. This radar detector will save you from having to slam on the brakes and skid into town. Buy one they are great with so many features in a small package.

  • Excellent!

The Cobra I had for 15 years finally died, it was so reliable, I hated to give it up! This 9500ix has far surpassed my expectations! It has a memory feature that blocks out false alarms, it has loud audible and bright visual notifications and tells your speed as you are targeted. you can spend more money if you want, but you don't have to!

  • Best Detector

This is the best detector I've ever owned! It's ability to lock out false alerts is a great feature. The detection range is unbelievable. Programmable display is also a great feature, when receiving an alert my eyes go to the detector which I have programmed to show my speed.

  • Even is your are a slow driver it saves you a lot!

This is my second unit, the first was stolen among many valuables after my fife forgot locking the car. I have it long time, I forget the years I own this detector, I did buy it right after this unit came out. This unit almost never signals a false alarm. I did think many times that there is nothing this it is a false alarm. Nevertheless, I did watch my speed and several times I did find a civilian car with dark tinted windows prove to be a police car and seeing turned the red/blue lights on stopping someone. One time ignored it and I got the ticket driving 72 Mph in the 65 Mph zone. It is easy to update via Internet. I ought to mention that I use it in Europe also at least twice a year in multiple countries. It has saved me a lot of money, even though I am not ignoring the speed limit. In Europe I use it in tandem with TomTom Speed cameras (in France no listing of speed cameras - of course they have thousands). Some countries have sophisticated measurement system between two points that how much time it takes for you, regardless of how many times you change lanes and the fine comes if you are over 5 km (3 Mph) the limit. This detector does warn you. Every times it signals - there IS a control system. (cover it with a dark cloth in Europe - they do not allow it to be used). Highly recommend it!
