Works like a charm.
I have enjoyed wearing this watch for several months now. My wife and I also have a scope but this is just as accurate and much more convenient and easy to use. For me it works best when my ball is close to the green. Previously I would not bother getting the scope out of the cart and would try to approximate my yardage by sight and would leave my shots short. Earlier this summer I played in a scramble and 3 members of our foursome were wearing a Garmin. The only shortcomings are when I tried to play more than 18 holes, the battery life was not sufficient. And occasionally the GPS function would turn off in the middle of a round and it would revert to being a watch. Garmin Approach S1 Golf Watch
Simple to turn on and off. Simple to set course. Simple to operate. Acts as a watch and an odometer too. Battery life good. Re-charger easy to work however watch must be removed immediately from charger after fully charged or there can be damage to the battery. Battery is soldered in place so a professional should change the battery. This is my second Garmin S1. I am a professional caddie and it lasts a long time. My watch band basically disintegrated after all the abuse and mileage. Easier to buy another watch. This is the original Garmin and its still one of the better distance measuring devices out there. Garmin S1
Garmin S1 is a good, basic golf watch. I use it as my wristwatch as well, off the course. I have 3 of them, and keep them charged. They will handle 18 holes and a few more with a full charge. I keep a charged spare in my bag. The weakness of the product is the wristband, which is incorporated into the body of the product, and can't be changed, so the whole device must be replaced every 3 years or so when the rubber wristband breaks. There are numerous suggestions on the web for how to fix this, but I have tried recently to use a needle and thread. Which has worked for a while. It is very reliable and helpful for courses that are not well marked and for errant drives in the next fairway, where course markings are not nearby. Battery replacement can be a nightmare, but there are people on the web who will sell you a battery mounted in a bottom shell piece that can keep you from having to solder, so the product is maintainable, and inexpensive. And the yardage is right there on your arm, not in the cart. Accurate as any other GPS device that depends on satellite communications. +/- 5 yards or so. The more satellites in "view" the better the accuracy. Not sold as "new" by the manufacturer. Garmin s1 is great
Garmin s1 is all I need to play a better game. I estimate that it has saved me 2 strokes per round already. The wrist band makes it much handier than the pick-up rangefinders, and you don't have to sight anything---just look at your wrist. I don't need the advances on the newer s2 and s3. I don't have time and don't care about all those features soooo I paid less. So far the battery has been good and I don't use the time keeper, although after golf I do use the exact time to compare all my clocks at home to insure they are all on time. I do worry about the sweat that might corrode the contacts on the watch charger. Only time will tell.I did jump in the shower too quick and sprayed the GPS before i thought to take it off---NO PROBLEMS THOUGH. Perfect golf watch
This is the perfect golf watch for the golfer who prefers simplicity over clutter. The face is not cluttered up with things the average golfer will never use. Its easy to see the large numbers and always goes to the next hole automatically and every time I go to a new course and turn it on it knows what golf course we are at, which is nice. I have had my old one for about 6 years now and use it two times a week. I bought this one for a backup (in case my old one ever does wear out) since it is getting harder and harder to find a nice simple gps golf watch. Reliable Distance
Course distance markers vary from course to course, so a big help to us duffers especially. Have used the S-1 for over 5 years. The only drawback is the weakness of the wristband which is not replaceable. Some newer models have corrected this oversight. I've turned on at least 6 people to the technology & they are all happy.
