Brilliant game.
I knew what I was getting with this game, as I've seen it on YouTube many times and played the second one. There are newer silent hunters out which are graphically superior but I grew up with graphics like this so it's good for me. Playability wise it's all there, older games often are more play based rather than reliant on graphics alone and this game isn't lacking at all. You can make it as realistic or arcade like as you wish making it a great game to really get stuck into or just have a bit of fun sinking ships. It will keep you hooked for hours on end. Good Game - authentic or Arcade style game play.
Silent Hunter III is a classic Submarine Simulation/Wargame. The Graphics are very acceptable and the game play is quite compelling. One can either play the game in full simulation made, or in arcade style mode (where you have certain things - like torpedo target bearing calculating - worked out for you. The game does take time to get you (as Captain of the U-boat) up to speed regarding estimating bearings of ships and calculating the torpedo runs. Silent Hunter III - a classic game of hunter becoming the hunted
This is the best of the Silent Hunter series for game play, though it is dated by today's standards. However, it requires quite specific hardware and only runs on Win 98 so be careful before you buy. This used to be available on Steam, but they have stopped supporting Win 98, so a DVD is one of the few options remaining to play it. A great game that gets increasingly difficult as the Allies develop better anti-submarine tactics and weapons, brilliantly recreated in this game.
