Great small DAB radio.
I have had one of these radios for some time now. Good quality and sound (for its size) and so I decided to purchase another for another room. I think that it replaces the XDR-S40DBP which has a smaller speaker and therefore smaller frequency range (less bass). Easy to set up and use, the 5 station pre-sets are situated at the top of the case as is the on/off button and circular volume switch. Battery life is good; how long does it last on 4 AA cells? Depends of course on use and volume level, but I am more than pleased with battery life. It is a DAB/FM radio with 5 pre-sets on each channel which I find enough. Maximum volume level is 30 on the scale but this gives some distortion. If you want loud volume levels buy another radio! Comes in black or white (generally cheaper for some reason). A great small radio and I love it. With any DAB radio, it either works perfectly or not very well at all. Positioned properly it should work in most environments even with the aerial down. Excellent DAB radio
Does what a DAB radio should do (and so many of them don't with the signal strength we have around here). My only criticism is that the 'sleep' setting isn't persistent and has to be reset each time it is used. It would be nice just to press a button and get a preset sleep interval to an automatic switch-off. Instead one has to select a menu, find 'sleep' and select a time interval. This might bother you if you like to listen when you wake up in the middle of the night, as all that fiddling about tends to wake you up. But overall, no complaints at all, and I'd recommend it to anyone.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Amazing little DAB/FM radio, does what it says.
Needed a new radio for kitchen as the Roberts one was useless. Had a Sony portable years ago that was brilliant so thought I would try again, chose one that specifically did FM as have never been able to have a DAB signal, to my amazement it automatically tuned in to DAB, excellent sound, easy to use and to have DAB as well couldn't wish for better. Had a few DAB radios with poor to OK battery life. This one is different by being very good indeed No point having a portable if not good battery life.EG Last similar radio gave about 2 days of 8hr use/day. This has given 5 days - big difference. Great product at a good price
Bought especially for a blind friend. Controls needed to be easy to find and easy to use. Mains and battery power essential. Portability also essential but not so small or light that it could get knocked off the table! All these aspects are fulfilled. Makes a perfect travel companion to the S61D model.
I wanted this model as a travel version of my bedside S61D radio. As I hoped the functions and operating system are the same. Instead of a large rotating know in the centre of the 4 buttons this model has a small up-down button that does the same thing with little, if any, reduction in ease of use. As with all the DAB radios I have used, the battery life is quite short even on FM so if taken on holiday, it does need to be plugged in.
