Hewlett-Packard HP 11C Handheld Electronic Calculator

About this product

Product Information

A mid-range and programmable scientific calculator, the HP 11C has two features that are an improvement from an earlier version, the HP-33E/C. These two features are its built-in random number generator and a backspace key that enables users to correct a problem or formula one number at a time. Other built-in features of the HP 11C calculator include hyperbolic and inverse hyperbolic trigonometric functions, combinations and permutations on probability, percent change, factorial, and absolute value. The main advantage of the HP 11C calculator is its programming capabilities. This allows for label addressing (0-9 and A-E), subroutines (nestable to 4 deep), 8 conditional tests, increment/decrement loops, and 2 flags. Users also have the option to redefine the number of certain keyboard keys.

    Classic calculator for engineers

I bought one of these new in 1987, and used it for 30 years daily in my work as a chemical engineer in industrial R&D. When it was recently lost (or perhaps stolen), I looked at other calculator options to replace it. There are many scientific calculators available today, but none offer the combination of the required functionality, simple use, compact and lightweight form, and nearly indestructible reliability presented by the HP-11C. So, I purchased another one on ebay, and am very happy to have my calculator back. This type of HP calculator has achieved a near legendary status among those that value such items as professional tools, and for good reason.

    HP 11C RPN Calculator.

These are a great legacy RPN calculator. IF you do not know what RPN stands for, check it out with Google. Be suspect of condition of keyboard and if it is missing the badge, This is a sure sign of abuse... Buyer beware. You can get the replacement rubber pads on the back, its easy to replace them. Look for good mechanical key operation and a seller willing to take it back if it does not perform! You will get what you pay for. This was a calculator with a bad display (inconsistent), keyboard function labels are bubbling like a solvent was used on it. Great calculator, this particular one was a bad purchase.

  • Incredible small in size , huge in function, and the best crafted engineering calculators made!

It is the 2nd one of these I now have in my possession (both in near mint condition) - as well as the HP-15C (with Original Manual) I just purchased in near mint condition (only a small minor 4 letter tag on back bottom). All work as good as new out of their box! I use one of the HP-11C's for some actual calculations and it sits next to my home desktop for quick access. As a professional structural engineer - these calculators are the very best ever made for my type of calculations done - even though much of the grunt work is now done by spreadsheet and computer analysis software.

  • A small powerhouse RPN scientific

The HP 11C calculator has stood the test of time in terms of construction and function. It is compact and full of features. It can even be programmed by the user. The keys are hinged and tactile so they do not wobble and provide positive feedback. If you can find one on eBay for less than $100, grab it or a 15C. They'll both serve you well.

  • This is a timeless jewel.

You cannot get a calculator like this anymore. 30-year-old ones can be gotten that look and work as new. Double-struck keys. Big, clear display with the right way to show powers. Years on a set of batteries. No stupid plot features (that's for a PC, not a calculator).

  • Some things should never change

Hewlett Packard makes great equipment as do other companies...but they keep "improving them" and discontinue what they made perfect. I suppose if they did not keep changing the product they might just go out of businees because the old stuff like the 11C refused to break down or become obsolete. I am a land surveyor and I used the 11C in the field many many years ago. This thing is flawless, kinda like finding a 67 GTO with all the original equipment still functioning.

  • Great Calculator

I used a HP 11C while in college and then lost it somewhere along the line, but always want another one. It is a very convenient size and very useful for basic engineering calcs. I also like the keyboard layout and it is quite durable.

  • Great HP calc.

The series, whether 10C, 11C, 12C, 15C, or 16C, were great calcs. Light and easy to use. I got this 11C and love it. Wish HP would still make this series (they still do make the 12C).

  • As useful today as it was in 1981

I consider this the epitome of engineering calculators because it has all the features I've ever needed (as an electronic design engineer) and it's very convenient to use. The batteries last for several years, never loses its storage, it's programmable, has RPN and doesn't complicate things with unneeded bells and whistles. Though it's no longer made by HP, it's readily available used. There is even a small company, swissmicros.com, which makes a clone but I go for the used originals for about the same price.

  • HP 11c - how did I live without it??

Great calculator. I had a 41c when I was in college but the 11c is much smaller and does the job that I need. I live the fact that you can program it. The 11c arrived on time and was ready to use. When I received it I thought to right to previous owner a thank you for taking such good can of it. I told my son who is in computer engineering about it and he want to try it as well. I have an app on my phone but it is nothing like the real thing. Maybe I will get a 16c next for programming.
